* Giro d'Italia *

The Giro d'Italia is an annual stage race bicycle race primarily held in Italy, while also occasionally starts and/or passing through other countries. The race was first organized in 1909 to increase sales of the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, however it is currently run by RCS Sport. The race has been held annually since its first edition in 1909, except when it was stopped for the two world wars. The Giro is a UCI World Tour event, which means that the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI Proteams, with the exception of the teams that the organizers can invite.

* Giro d'Italia 2016 *

The Giro d'Italia 2016 will be 99th running of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tour races. The Giro will start in Apeldoorn on 6 May with an 9.8 km individual time trial, and continue with two other stages in the Netherlands, both between Nijmegen and Arnhem. Then, after a rest day, there will be 18 further stages to reach the finish on 29 May. These stages are principally in Italy, although two stages take place partly in France.

The 99th edition of the Giro d’Italia has all the ingredients to be another successful edition of the Corsa Rosa with a balanced and innovative race route, some classic mountain stages, three important time trials and a eclectic start list that should ensure some entertaining and spectacular racing on each of the 21 stages.

* Giro d'Italia 2016 in the province of Gelderland *

Info about the province of Gelderland

The province of Gelderland lies in the east of the centre of the Netherlands. In terms of area (5,137 km²) it is the largest of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands. Gelderland’s 54 municipalities are home to 2 million inhabitants.

The region has a varied landscape with forests, large rivers and rural areas. You will also find modern urban hubs such as Arnhem, Nijmegen and Wageningen with international secondary schools and universities supporting the knowledge-based economy.

Gelderland from above, very nice

* World War II *

Both Arnhem and Nijmegen are famous for the classic movie 'A Bridge Too Far', a 1977 British-American epic war movie that tells the story of the failure of Operation Market Garden during World War II. Possibly more than 17,000 young men died in just a couple of days. The main objective was to seize several bridges in the occupied Netherlands and outflanking German defenses in order to end the war by Christmas of 1944.

First 3 flat stages in the Netherlands, every stage starts in a different cities. All 3 cities have nice historical buildings and a long history, the earliest settlement in this area dates from 1500 BC.

*** The first city is Apeldoorn (famous for the House of Orange-Nassau, Dutch royalty) ***

*** The second city is Arnhem (famous for the The Battle of Arnhem) ***

*** The third and last city is Nijmegen (famous for the annual Four Days Marches) ***

Good topic! :P :D

This is my favourite race of the three Grand Tour. Giro d'Italia has almost always the best route, the best scenery, the best competition in my opinion.

I think Nibali should win this in aspect of his future career options (so if he wants to earn such big amount of money, if he wants to hold his captain status etc., he has to win this), and Landa can win it because of his ability, age etc. I think normally they will fight for the first place. Valverde is enough good to fight for 3rd place, maybe for even better places.

But there are many others, too...

My guess:

GC:
1. Landa
2. Nibali
3. Valverde

Mountain jersey: Atapuma
Sprinters jersey: Ewan
White Jersey : Formolo

I agree with best scenery, at least as seen from TV.
Wish i could do a roadtrip some year following the course through Italy.

Kangert or Taaramae gonna take one stage at least!

Taaramae has to be lucky :)
very good allrounder , but it's like he is always going for the GC , but he has indeed to be focused on Stage wins

As stated in the article: the perfect timing.

Memoir or fictional memoir, without names no one to check his stories. By choosing the right words when describing memories it can all become a lot more exciting .... and saleable with the perfect time.

he wants to sell books? yes.
Do he write truth? yes.
EVERY former pro-cyclist knows it.

Do he write truth?

Just as me, you absolutely can't know if his story is the truth and no one can check it.

I don't say he didn't use doping, he did because he is banned from cycling because of doping. If you think that I mean he didn't use doping, you should think before you post nonsense because everyone knows he did that!

If that article represents his book, I think it is written in a style to make sure it sells!

I mean that no cyclist can get till the end of the giro/tour without using doping and other illegal practices..
Don't you believe it? it's Ok! Enjoy it.
Even wrestling is a good show, why to discuss about?

I didn't say a thing about the doping part, I'm talking about his damn book! Learn to read, annoying ****!!

Or are you again posting nonsense on purpose so you can start stalking and trolling again? Please take control of your obsessive behaviour, better known as OCD!
