I visited Budapest twice, but somehow it never appealed to me that much (though still not as disappointing as Zagreb or in minor degree Bratislava). Might be a great place for a stag weekend though, as people mentioned, cheap, lots of choices for nightlife, ...
Haven't been in Riga yet, except airport transfer between Estonia and Lithuania, so cannot really help there :P
