It reminds me of squash. Quite common to play that shot there. But pulling it off in tennis is great :D.

The Grand Willy(La Gran Willy), I bet Federer learnt that by watching argentinian players, It' very common argentininan players to do that in that situation, cause it's a shot inveted by Guillermo Vilas(that's were the name comes from, Guillermo=William, Vilas nick name is Willy).

Here he is explaining it(in spanish), he says(joking) it's a very dangeorus shot, specially for men. :P:

Gran Willy

In Wikipedia(Shame it's only in spanish), Wikipedia says that Vilas was inspired to do that shot when he saw Juan Carlos Harriot(considered the best argentinian Polo player) do a backhander between the legs of his horse for an advertising of an argentinian scotch named Old Smuggler. The first time that shot was made was in an exhibition in 1974 in Buenos Aires, and the first time made in an official match was in 1975 in Indianapolis:

It´s something different to do it in training and to do it in an important match. I bet I could do this shot, too, with some training and luck.

Man, I'm not talking about training, I'm talking about the guy that actually invented that shot more than 30 years ago, and done it many times over the 70s and 80s in important matches, god!!!! that shot was even named after him.

It was a great shot by Roger, but name it the greatest shot ever, noo!!! This was invented long time ago, and many players have done that shot in important matches and being many of them much beautiful than Roger's. You only have to search Gran Willy in Youtube. ;)

It's not about who invented the shot, it is about the way it was done (acurracy, speed, situation in match, where was enemy) and as such it would also be under the best shots in tennis history. If it was the best or not is just a matter of taste I guess and nothing you can evaluate objectivly. If someone in sokker makes a great shot on goal, then we also do not argue about "who invented" that shot but about how it was done, accuracy speed etc ;)
