Subject: Sokker Ranking

I found a great idea.

i dont see a problem with the ranking system... everyone basically plays their B team in the frendlies so the ranking as a result reflects the strenght of the squad of the teams... yeah some people dont play a B team but they will suffer financially as a result i would think caus not as many players will get training...

make what you want of it but IMO, its a good system to compare teams... you can always look at those teams and see if they field a B team or not if theyre higher than expected..

and if frendlies didnt matter then intl games wouldnt count... the current system allows u to play an intl game against foreign team and gain points for you while reducing them for the opponent... as a result it evens up the countries! otherwise you could just start in a small country and win everythnig when theres no opposition.

and someone else asked why poland werent included. its mentioned somewhere that they have 80% of the top positions :P

I agree. It is a good idea.

The team's ranking is determined by how strong the club is. And I think club's strength shouldn't mean the strength of it's best eleven.

Of course no-one is going to play to win in a friendly. The priority is training. But the bigger team has a better trainees and a second squad than a smaller one mostly. So I don't believe, that it is unfair, that friendlies are also included to the calculation. Actually I believe it is better to include friendlies, and I'll give my reasons:

1. It challenges the bigger side to show it strength. If this side can't meet this challenge, they shouldn't claim that they are really big.

2. It is said that, the calculation of these rankings are based on ELO-calculation. The ELO calculation becomes reliable:

a. ... as the number of played games grows. So if the friendlies are included, the calculation would be based on more matches.

b. ... and more importantly, as you play against many different opponents. Here in Sokker, we have 7 other teams that we are playing against every season. And then only about two of them will change every season. So you will keep playing against the same side over and over. Then this ranking will be quite reliable for a comparison between the teams in that league, but I would have nothing to do with teams from other leagues in the same division. So the friendlies are necessary for the circulation of teams worldwide ( or at least nationwide ), which allows a much more reliable ranking through the nation and world.

Some additional information, this is how ELO works: If a weak player with low ELO beats a strong player with higher ELO, the weaker player will gain many points and the stronger player will lose many points.
If a weak player with low ELO loses to a strong player with higher ELO, the weaker player will lose few points and the stronger player will gain few points.
If a weak player with low ELO and a strong player with higher ELO draws, the weaker player will gain few points and the stronger player will lose few points.

Well, a lot of smaller teams consider the friendly matches as a chance to earn a bunch of more money, competing against some greater teams. With the introduced system, this will lead into dropping a lot of places in the ranking table, seeing that it's more likely for a B team of a small team to lose against a larger team's second team.

I totally agree that friendly matches should not be taken into account in this ranking system, which imo is perfect in any other case.

"If they improve a new feature, I want to enjoy it, but if i consider it doesn´t work prperly, I don´t enjoy it anymore, even if mine is the best team of the ranking."

It's not a new feature, it was there at least one year ago. They've just implemented the list on the Sokker page.

agree. ranking should be calculated only from official games same as number of matches, goal and assists do.

The rankings I think completely bad for the cup draw. Why your B team strength count? Not everyone makes the same training system. For example someone buy the players when they are 16, and someone buy them when they're 19. Obviously the secund one will beat the first one, but maybe he has worse first team. The results depend on the first teams strength and this should count when we make the draw for the cup. For example My ranking is only the 30. in Hungary however I start my 7th season in the first league (from the possible 9). So It would be really good to exclude the friendly matches or count them with a minimal multiplier.

u basically said what i said :)

and even if a weak team loses to a strong team they might increase in ranking points if they didnt lose by a big enough margin!
next team im playing are 1200 ranking points below me...
i have to win by more than 2 goals to increase my ranking (although i will do that easily :) )

if i win by a single goal i will decrease in points. or if i was to win by two goals in a high scoring match i would drop points also... (winning 10-8 isnt as good as winning 2-0) although the match would be more enjoyable :)

HOW MUCH DOES A FRIENDLY AFFECT? The same than a official match? the half? The 1/10 part?

Considering the teams are the same level, of course.

I think that could be a key. If it is the same for the ranking an offcicial or a friendly match, well, I don´t find it serious, as I already said. But if it affects the 1/10 or something, well, that could be ok.

I was reading the ELO rating system but I still don´t see it clearly.

thanks.

yeah its complicated maths involved in some of the examples :)
but basically its just a system to compare teams depending on how well they do against each other..thats all you need to know really. if you win a match you will gain ~30 points generally id say and if u lose ul lose that many.
that would be an average number id throw out there..

frendlies have the same affect on rank as league matches. which is what ppl are complaining about but... look at reason given at top of this page if ya wanna see y its good. only reason ppl have a problem with it is caus they use it for training. but since 90% of ppl do that and the people who dont are noobs, then it all evens out.

where did ya get this info anyways NIN? and whos highest overall?

I have the formula for the rankings. It's pretty fair. Example

Team 1 have 2000 rank points
Team 2 have 1900 rank points

(1-2)=100 (or B)

B is then multiplied by -.03 to give you -2.88 (or C)

C is then added to a set number depending on the result. 0-0 is worth nothing, so the team rated 2000 loses 2.88 points and the team ranked lower gains 2.88.
A 1-0 win is worth 29.29 so if team 1 wins, they get (-2.88 + 29.29) or 26.29 points.

I got the info from the national league pages and with some help from Excel i put them all together. Highest overall are FC Victrix of Poland. If i'd added the Polish teams Borabora would have been 6th.

Of course 90% of us use the friendlies the same way, that´s a fact, but le me tell you the best way to measure the team´s competitivity is considering the "real" matches, I mean, the matches you really studied and the matches you really want to win, not the "practice" matches... I think that´s a fact too.

I am not saying I don´t want a ranking... I really want a ranking! And I want to see it in my club´s first page, but I want it being calculated the most accurate as possible... Do you really think inlcuding the friendlies is the best choice?

Feyzo Thank you!
I thought good idea to deploy the points ranking on the homepage of each club.
Thus facilitates individual who wants to know his views.
Congratulations to the creator of this idea!
