But the same is true for many people from western Europe. They don't know that the communism have collapsed, they think that in Poland or Czech Republic there are white bears on the streets and they are asking if eastern Europe has computers (>_

So Mutschgi is right, there is people ignoring all sort of things everywhere ;)

This same show is being replicated in many countries, and in each version you find good examples :P

There you go. Another example that comes to mind is, recently Big Brother Argentina and Big Brother Spain made an exchange of inhabitants of each house(I know Big Brother´s inhabitants aren´t the brightest people on earth =P ). So, the members of the spanish house started asking things to the argentinian girl that went to Spain, like if she knew what mayonese was, or if she knew hair conditioner, it was ridiculous!!!

what? you're telling me you have computers in Argentina? :O

The other way around, I must say that, for example, the girl that does the cleaning in my house, while I was watching a documentary about WW2, asked me who Hitler was. But in this case we are talking about someone without an elementary school finished.

But you must remember, that most important things have happened in Europe and people in other continent should have lack of history knowledge about Europe

dont know how about others, but i am not bad at history but dont know much about America, Africa or Asia, only choosen age's, like 1776, 1492, 1868, 1960 or others...

of course simples like that or "who was Hitler" are dire, but some simple facts for European can be unknown for American, African or Asian

Yeah, seriuosly what do you know about Kingdom of Aksum or Mali Empire...we have our eurocentric view of world.

Much western Europeans think everybody in the southern hemisphere except Australia, everybody in Asia except Japan and Hong Kong and everybody in eastern Europe (they say central Europe) is living in great poverty.

And seriously, I do not have any clue about the exact level of live style in South America. I think that Argentinians are the wealthiest South Americans.

If you play Civ 4 you get to know stuff about the Malinese Empire :p

Exactly, there is an NZ version of this and some of the people on there are VERY stupid.

Probably along chileans and uruguayans, I won´t lie there´s poverty, like most countries in the world, there insn´t any country exempt of that, we have more poor people and our poor people is poorer than western europeans for sure, and middle classes probably do not have the same acquisitive power than middle classes in Western Europe, then you´ll find high classes with people with loads of money, Argentina is a country of contrasts, but for sure that we aren´t apparted from the world, you´ll find here kind of the same things you find in the rest of the world, we aren´t running naked or with a loincloth and a spear in our hands hunting animals to eat. =P

This is just an index done by the UN, so it doesn´t reflect the exact realities of the different kind of people that inhabits Argentina, but an average, but something is something, at least to give you an idea.

I know of that HDI, I think I've posted it on the forum once.

And we also have poverty in the Netherlands, but in my opinion most of them are not really poor, they are poor compared to other Dutchmen.
