Subject: II World War
I guess that topic might be interesting, and quite useful to get some information :p
@Cathie
I have a question. What is written in your history books in schools about Russia in 2nd World War, about how they made Poland free, about Katyn, and about Ribbentrop - Molotov pact? Just curious.

Read them. Or you think somebody will copypast gigabytes of texts here? )) Everyone learns by himself and then show his knowledge to all the others. Like you did.

nothing about Poland in our history books :p Only that it was invaded as first country :p
Wooow so intelligent :p sorry but I don't have an access to them, nor do I speak Russian ;-)
@langhe
really? that's a shame..:( but it's quite understandable, it's such a wide theme that schools would need to spend whole year at 2nd WW to say at least half of important things :)

i have a little question about poland@ww2, is it true that when germany invaded poland, poland still used horsemen?
so it was the german panzers vs horses?

Our books in school differ but I think that generally they are near neutral perception. The main problem should be events around Benes, it is admiting mistakes but trying excuse them. After I have studied more sources I realy dont blame Benes for his politics but I think that books in school as starting post should not rate.
In books are more points than real history: nacism, holocaust, appeasement, etc..
I cant say what was there about Poland, too many months...

No it wasnt true. There were some cavalry divisions but they werent figting with tanks. Germans or French had them as well but not to fight with tanks. Tanks were destroyed by anti-tank weapons or artillery.
My history teacher called the Ribbentrop - Molotov pact a pact between two monsters, that it just could not be.

It's just a myth that even many Polish people believe in ;-)
Our cavalry was moving near the front, and German tanks were doing it as well. They've got onto each other by accident and our cavalry had nowhere to run, so the fight has started ;)

The only things my school books told me is that the first country that was invaded was Poland in 1939, and that in 1940 Holland got invaded in a few days. Furthermore, there was a single page about the iron curtain, but I dont know anything about it since our teacher and the book itself did not put emphasize on it.
The rest was about Anne Frank, Jewish people who were hidden, people who illegally made newspapers and copied id's, how Hitler became powerful. ( according to that book people thought that he would help Germany become economically more stable but actually he did the opposite)
About Russia nothing until a few chapters later where things were told about stalin, rasputin and so on... nothing positive about russia though...
and cold war of course...
