Subject: Winter Olympics 2014 Sochi

but this is impossible to introduce with allmost all speed skating distances because you can't expect 3, 4 or even more runs + a final run with 5000m and 10000m men, and 3000m and 5000m women, and maybe even impossible for all distances.

They can divide it over severals days. I agree it might not be possible for the longest distances, but surely for the shorter ones (like qualification and then eight-/quarterfinals = 4-5 races). It also gives more athletes a chance to win a medal instead of some dominators like Wüst collecting one almost everywhere. Because you'd have to focus your energy on your favorite distance(s). Like in track&field, you don't see too many multiple winners over 800m and 1500m there for example.

To make it more clear, it's like suggesting a knock out/head-to-head system for the Downhill and Super-G events

Maybe that would be fun too :p but at least in downhill etc. not every run looks the same, and every track is different. There are key parts that make the run interesting, and where even ordinary people can tell whether it was done well or not. If they'd all just run down a straight line in the hill it would be equally boring.

But anyway, I only made suggestions how to make it as least a little exciting :p For me, speed skating is like a track and field race where every runner would do the rounds on his own - boring. If some people like it, I don't mind. Although I think quite a few of them wouldn't watch it either if it wasn't a good chance for some medals. :p

Womens final:

Poland vs Nederland ;]

2 more gold medals for the Netherlands, and (most probably) also the last 2 medailles. I don't think we will win any medal with bobsleigh Four-man :P So we are done these Olympic Games :)

Hopefully we can stay above Germany and Switzerland, that would be fantastic, 5th overall.

this ranking is rubbish, why count only gold medals? nation which 14 medals is clearly better with that with 6 (gold - 3 points, silver - 2, bronze - 1 and we can talk), imagine that one country can be higher with only 1 gold medal than country with 30 won medals (without gold)

Well, why do only medals count? Why is a nation with 10 fourth places behind a nation with 1 Bronze? In ancient Greece only the winner was important.

So, yeah, this is less of a medal, than more of a Gold Medal Table (with the other medals supporting the claim and being the decider).

Of course you can mix that up as you like.
Adding all medals after the 3,2,1 Point System. Giving Points for the first ten places. Or first 20. Just adding up the medals because you don't care for the colour. Dividing through the population of your nation. Through the GNP. Temperature. Puting your own region into the table (like a newspaper from Bavaria did). Removing the sports you don't like. etc.

In the end, it's just statistical fun.

It's all about medals, so it should be table, which counts medals, not only golds. But maybe seeing that arrow near gold means that you can actually change filter to "total", but gold seems default in most of the medals ranking.

It is just a subjective opinion if you filter it by Goldmedals or total sum of medals or anything else, Timestop has made that pretty clear.
So if you feel like filtering it by Sum of medals, here is my advice:
Take that Spreadsheet, put it in your Spreadsheet program and filter it by total sum. Then say out loud: "That is how it should be!"

Also fun: to compare with the results 2010: here
or the results of 2006: here
and see the improvement (if there is any.. yea I am looking at you Germany) ;)

Silver and bronze is for the numbers 2 and 3, not the winners, so with 20x silver and no gold you have no real winner. Some will celebrate silver and bronze as a winner, but it isn't.

Anyway, if you like the total medals more, filter it yourself that way :)

The Netherlands 5th, unbelievable good result! :D
