At this age it's a lot about talent. I've checked some top Polish players to see how they started compare to where they are now. This is the biggest shock I've seen:

17 years old, week 2
0 pace 9 def
1 tech 9 pm
1 pass

DEF sumskill: 20

you'd expect nothing great will come out of such player... yet he plays in first team of Polish NT now and his sumskill is 78, which is crazy compared to how he looked like at 17. +58 skills!

Wow true, but a 9 at week 2 as a 17 yr old in 2 skills is actually a lot don’t you think?

not really... it's week 5 now and I have 17yos with sumskill 32 [9 pace], 32, 30

I actually have a 16yo with sumskill 21

First they need talent, and at that age you're more reliant on luck then an accurate estimate.

Then they need a club with great coaches to train him, who also don't care about results. Those 2 things are something of a contradiction.

It's a good point. Talent will always catch up if they are young enough. It's why 16yo unknown talents can go for a lot of money.

In that example, whilst luck with injuries help, most clubs have top training facilities so it's not out of the realms of possibility for anyone to train a player like that.

He most likely had max talent. Which is the hardest thing to get.
