If they have same talent, Radford is a much better investment and will be a better player due to 3 levels higher pace and same ATT skillsum.

I don't really understand the logic behind "he is nothing without pace". They are the same in overall, while pace is the slowest training, ergo higher pace = better player. At 20yo they're training prospects not players and low tech/low striker will train much faster than Sweeney's pace.

With same talent Radford will have more skills after 2 seasons of trainings than Sweeney.

When I say that I'm talking in terms of player being effective in a position, because all he cirrently has going for him is pace. His next highest skill is excellent (10). What position is he good in?

Ok, so if what you're saying is true, then everyone should only train pace for players between 16-20yos, right? Because pace is the slowest skill, then you should prioritise that and not train anything else? Leave the non skills to random pops and their talent!?

it doesn't really matter because he is 20/21, he's bad anyway and not fit to be used as 1st team player regardless of skill distribution

the order of training doesn't really matter except for usefulness (for example there is no point in starting training of a defender with tech, playmaker and passing etc.)

the thing is a striker needs mostly 3 skills so both of them will have to reach high pace anyway, but since Radford already has it higher he doesn't have to train it at those levels anymore - so when Sweeney will be doing the harder training, Redford will be doing the easier (tech/striker) training so Radford will improve faster and after season, two or three will simply have more skills

or in other words, if Sweeney also trained pace to the same extent as Redford, then he'd have same pace and lower tech/striker than Redford today

Yeah, I get that, I dont disagree but as a player 'now' Radford is nothing. He just has pace!!

With that approach if we only train our yougsters pace, then all U21 sides would simply be a team full of sprinters, right?

I only train youngsters, so I'd get seriously bored training them all pace. I prefer the variety, also having a more well balanced player with different skills (2 or 3, rather than 1).

I just feel Radford isn't that good. I personally wouldn't buy him.

Again, the order of training doesn't matter, Redford isn't better because he trained pace first, he is better because he has higher potential (if he also stopped training pace at [13] like Sweeney, he would have today higher tech/striker than Sweeney). To put it differently, if Sweeney has 1000 points in his pace/tech/striker training, then Redford already has 1100 points.

I understand what you're saying but my point is I prefer having players with more balanced skills, rather than training one skill to say level 15 or higher before focusing on the next skill.

You're both looking at them as strikers, I'm not.

Radford is useful to me because our defence is f***ed.
Sweeney isn't because his Tech is way behind what's needed for a striker.

Well if he's in your defence then we defo are f@cked
2025-12-15 15:17:01
Yep. I've been saying for months that the defence for this season is going to be a major problem.

If Zuke Hill is charting, it can't be great as he is a this season youth. Highly talented but about 2 seasons too late!

Yeah, Sweeney's tech was only solid (8) but he was on the cusp of very good (9). Is that way down for a striker then? What should strikers ideally be then as a minimum? Something like outstanding (12)? I think I might train one of my youngsters!

Sweeney's stats:-
81 league games
65 official goals
Highest rating 57

I have no idea if 57 is a good rating to be perfectly honest!

From this conversation my conclusion is, to be an U21 striker you must have the following criteria:

- brilliant (14) pace,
- outstanding (13) tech
- probably excellent (11) striker

Would you say that's fair?
2025-12-15 15:52:58
Yep, that's why he's not in the squad (check the stars). The defence this season is dire but it looked even worse a couple of months ago. I'm going to go through everyone and see if there any midfielders who can bulk the defence out a bit but I only see a couple who I think might be able to do it.

Hey Camus, if you have time, can you kindly share a minimum requirement for all positions please, that'll be great. It'll give us a target! Ive got some decent players I want to get into good shape.

Sorry if you've already shared this detail. Please repost. Thank you.

Cheers, Chuck.

It's especially difficult to get into the U-21s as a striker right now because we have a lot at a decent level. I've actually added Sweeney as a striker and I probably shouldn't have. It should probably be Edozie but I'm wary of bias in favour of my own players.

As far as minimum requirements listed on the association man page, I've got 3 x Excellent to even be considered. To actually be one of the 6 main strikers you need to be hitting at least 34 sumskill.

Radford I'll tell you what I think, he's a good player, but he hasn't been trained at his best, because I see that he's been deployed in various roles, and there he's lost the true objective of what he was supposed to be. I think he's a defender, faster to make him, and I'm sure that with a couple of sprints he would be useful to Camus

Great, thanks coach.
