Friendly Match
United States #38
vs
Norway #24
The United States nears the end of a brutal stretch of competition, their last 4 opponents have all been in the top 30. Injuries and suspension are still a concern as this week another strong opponent waits in the wings.
#24 Norway are capable of playing at the very highest level as their world cup draws with the powerful Czechs and Spanish can attest.
The United States have shown a similar capacity for high level play, having beaten Denmark and playing three South American powers to a virtual standstill in previous weeks.
Antoine Winslow returns from suspension this week, but defensive standout Rick Avery failed a fitness test and will miss the match.
Alvin Worthen will also miss the game due to the red-card suspension earned last week vs Argentina, further depleting a defensive corp that has not been full strength in several weeks.
Norway is missing one of their better strikers in Eivind Westerheim due to injury, which may offer the Americans a much needed break.
"We're due for some luck," commented the manager, "most of the breaks seem to be going to the other side here lately. At full strength I like our chances but we can't match the depth of some of these bigger countries."
Currently the Americans are 70 ranking points out of the top 32, a victory today against the highly ranked Nords could catapult them into striking range of their goal.

Another agonizingly close draw, hard fought game, their first goal was a gift, but they had some golden chances that missed by a hair so in all it was probably a fair result.
If you want to see a highlight, fast forward to our equalizer by Hartman in the 73rd minute, very pretty run by the wide mid and a one time laser volley finish. One of the nicest Sokker goals I've seen in a while.

Well. I like how you've run the team so far. However, it is completely unacceptable for those hockey thugs from up north to be ahead of us in the rankings. Fix it.
I agree, who cares about top 32? It's all about Canada at this point.
