"ot too sure that elbow to the face was either though... He didn't do it intentionally"
I really would like to know what game you were watching?
1. The elbow could not have been more intentional/malicious. Futhermore, the red card was out before anyone even saw that McBride was bleeding.
2. There was talk that the Mastroeni card was a "make-up call". You can only have a make-up call in response to a bad previous call. There wasn't one, the ref was just completely incompetent. Mastroeni did get ball.
3. I'm just as mad at Pope, given his experience, for not recognizing what was at stake. He needed to play more level-headed.
I hate when people do this, but I'll go ahead: that game was decided by referees, not soccer players. It was a shame and any recourse taken against that ref is justified and deserved.
Now, let's beat Ghana!

Yea, I guess I'm agreeing on the elbow a bit more having seen the replay again. And since the beginning I said the previous red card influenced the direct red card for Mastroeni.
Regardless, what's pissing me off now is that on ESPN they think the likeliest scenario is for Italy to beat the Czech Republic and that's unlikely unfortunately for the US.

No. I hope they get a forward back, if they do, they can go a long way.
:) The European Cup tournament that runs every 4 years.
good old america, at least a few know about the euro cup
So much for that...
Now why would you kick it straight up in the air (keeping it in play by your goal) instead of knocking it out for a throw in?
Next World Cup we need some scorers, not just players, not just head specialists.

...I'll take that as you either didn't watch the game or aren't very apt at analyzing.
Wow, a post in which i am wishing you elaborated :)
They dominated Italy until the red card, arguably the goal. They were the best team in Europe in the Euro two years ago, coming back from 2-0 to beat the Netherlands 3-2, then crushing Denmark (from the group that Italy couldn't survive) 3-0 in the first elimination round, no one played like them, hence their #2 rank, which unlike for the US, is not derived from playing Carribean nations of 500 people. Baros just came back from an injury and Koller got injured. Besides those two, there's a great disparity, they don't have an offense. Have those two been healthy, coming in to play together, don't see a reason why they wouldn't match what they did in the Euro, the type of incredibly attractive playing they put on, and justify that ranking, if not surpassing it. So they had the better of Italy on their only chance Italy scored a goal of the corner, and basically back to the Ghana game again. Red card arrived in the 44th-45th minute. Without their forwards they just can't play from a disadvantaged position when their opponent doesn't give them an opportunity, just don't have the strikers, only the midfield. Numerous injuries elsewhere as well, age has nothing to do with it, don't listen to the retarded commentators. Italy sucks, pretty bad at that as well, but anyone can play a man up and being on top and put one more, including Ghana. Shame the cirumstances went like that against truly one of the best teams in the world, I would say they had the potential to be even better than Brasil, who're still playing with a buoy up top.
