LOL, 3 years, 600 million in salary, and ZERO playoff series wins.

the Yankees just need to blow that team up. They clearly are psychologically done after that epic choke job in 2004. The Yankees comeback aura was irreparable destroyed that series.
2007-10-09 16:36:39
go rockies, anyone who handled the phils like that needs to go to the world series.
2007-10-09 17:10:32
last night was really fun to watch.

It really is fascinating because from 1997(?) to 2003 the Yankees were the team that just wouldn't die.

Then in 2003 Josh Beckett single handedly took them out. OK, it was the World Series, not the end of the world.

But then to tank to the hated Red Sox the following season, oh baby.

Maybe they just need new management to kinda change things up.

I'm sure Steinbrenner would really have to twist Girardi's arm to take over the team.
2007-10-09 17:41:54
torres is gone they say.
2007-10-09 20:10:02
Joe Torre ... not Torres ... is the best manager in baseball.

Notwithstanding, the problem with the Yankees is Steinbrenner.

Torre should be CEO, GM, AND Manager.

Steinbrenner should sell the team to someone who really cares for more than just the bottom line financially.
2007-10-09 21:10:33
Yeah, because the best manager in baseball hits Alex Rodriguez 8th in a playoff elimination game.

LMAO!
2007-10-09 21:37:41
When did that happen?

A-Rod batted 4th throughout the playoffs.
2007-10-09 21:50:50
last season, against the Tigers.

Please, most Yankee fans will be glad to see Torre go. I don't know how you blame Steinbrenner for this.
2007-10-09 22:19:40
i hope steinbrenner hires charlie manuel.
2007-10-09 22:32:33
I don't care where your from, thats funny.

The Yankees didn't have enough arms, plain and simple.A 200 million dollar payroll and you're counting on Chamberlain and Hughes?A poorly constructed team that hit their way to the wild card, they lost to a better ball club,no shame in that.As for Torre,he's an average manager at best,he hasn't won the sausage for 6 straight years despite the blank checkbook and he's at least partially to blame for the Yanks stripping their farm system of talent in order to compete........Oh by the way.GO TRIBE!!!!!!!
2007-10-10 01:41:19
I want the Red Sox to win, but only because it'd twist the knife into the Yankees fans' chest just a bit more :)
2007-10-10 02:43:49
Torre is so overrated, given all that talent and money how hard is it to look good.

Anyone remember Aaron Boone at 3b, got hurt, and missed a season. Instead of using a platoon or fill-in the Yankees went out and bought an MVP SS and moved him to 3b. That is not great managing it is buying a Mercedes to replace your Honda. Too much credit because he coached in NY.
2007-10-10 02:51:02
They didn't actually "buy" the SS in question. They bent Tom Hicks over a barrel and talked him into taking an overrated second baseman who couldn't play defense, a utility minor league infielder, AND got Hicks to foot $7m per year of ARod's salary.

I'm a Rangers fan. That "trade" brings up bitter memories.

Remember when Mussina was in the last year of his contract with the Orioles? He stated ON TV that he wanted to stay in Baltimore.

Instead of staying an Oriole and continuing to be their perennial #1, NY offered him double to become their #4.
