Those 4 movies however are quite good ( not only because I'm Flemish, they were positively criticized by the film industry ). And it is Dutch, only not with your typical tongue, it's more neutral ;-)

And Flemish doesn't exist. It's Dutch or a dialect, but there is no Flemish dialect ;-)

I've seen the lot of them. Garbage is the only word I'd use for them. Dutch film critics are a joke. Whether you like it or not, Northern Dutch is the international standard for pronunciation in countries which have no form of Dutch as an official language. Flemish is spoken differently, with another vocabulary to boot. It's pretty much like saying Scottish English is just as good as British English. Whilst formally true, it's a huge difference in practice. If you truly want to help someone, instead of acting out of Flemish nationalism, do not suggest Flemish as a proper alternative.

You think Daens is garbage? Well, that's your opinion, but I think I can offer him those popular movies. And I've never said Northern Dutch isn't the standard, I'm just saying it doesn't make it correct and I think that someone who learns Dutch will be able to understand Flemish films. And the difference of words betweens let's call it standard Northern Dutch and standard Southern Dutch is only on specific matter, in a normal conversation, almost all the words are the same.
And why would I act out of Flemish nationalism? To convince a Hungarian? Please, I'm not that pathetic. So the moment I talk about a Flemish alternative to Dutch movies, I'm acting out of Flemish nationalism? Flemish is just a word to indicate the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. And again, Flemish as a language doesn't exist. Come to Flanders and hear it for yourself.

I agree with Schepel. When you are trying to learn Dutch, you should not listen to Belgium people talking. It will be very hard to understand.
Even the Dutch movies are hard to understand without subtitles I am affraid.

i cant add anything to this discussion, but i remember, that my gf said, that she can easily understand the flemish, but she has some problem with the frisian.

but i know that in nederland are many accent. i will ask her, and let her to decide.

Frisian should be closer to the German language, but I can understand its more difficult to get it "under the knee" (Dutch translation for mastering something).

Lol, dat is weer een typische Schepel-onderbouwing, ik durf er hard vanuit te gaan dat je ze niet gezien hebt als je dit zo opschrijft :)... Ik moet Rubinho toch hard gelijk geven hoor, al valt over smaak uiteindelijk niet te twisten. In de categorie films die voor een breed publiek gemaakt zijn, zijn wat mij betreft de films die Rubinho noemt een stuk beter dan de Nederlandse films die onze Hongaar noemde. Net als dat de Vlamingen mijlenver op ons voorlopen als het om muziek gaat.

Wat niet wegneemt dat je om Nederlands te leren inderdaad beter naar de Nederlandse films kunt kijken, veel van de Vlaamse films worden niet voor niets ondertiteld hier.

Daens is trouwens écht een goeie film, en Jan Decleir is veruit de beste Nederlandstalige acteur. Naar mijn bescheiden mening uiteraard.

Edit: trouwens, Nederlandse programma's zoals daar zijn Baantjer en Flikken Maastricht worden op de Vlaamse omroep ook ondertiteld. Alhoewel ik tegen ondertiteling van de Nederlandse taal ben. Doe een beetje moeite, en het is echt begrijpbaar, tenzij er echt dialect gepraat wordt.

Dat is omdat ge gewend zijt aan 'Hollands Nederlands'. Als ge een nieuwe taal leert, dan leert ge dat meestal vrij neutraal ( zoals ik Frans leerde bvb. ). Jullie zeggen altijd nij ipv nee. Poldernederlands, weet je wel ;-)

Dat klopt inderdaad.

Net zoals Vlamingen nogal de neiging hebben om een eind-t weg te laten, of de tussen-e ( bij woorden die eindigen op -en ) weg te laten. Een ander 'groot' verschil is het gebruik van ge en gij. Zelf gebruik ik in dagelijkse omvang nooit de woorden je of jij.

Jullie zijn toch ook te beleefd om nee te zeggen ? ;)
