Maybe it's a browser version or configuration problem?

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. It happens to me and, upon try and error, I'd point that is the likely issue.

The gear seems to work with FF from my coprporate laptop (a bit risky using it just to try, yet I didn't log into the game) , which keeps automatically updating, and upgrading (due to security policies) everything (OS, browsers' versions, pluggins, etc).

But that's not the case with my personal laptop. I have a modern (Chromium) FF version, yet it's not the newest, but one of the latest ones which allowed *complete* control over all the browsers configurations, and so able to keep Flash (without shitty expiration messages once and again)), to avoid shitty warnings about updates, to allow capability of blocking ALL Google -and Mozilla!- tracking/spyware, to be able to avoiding all ad-block and machine ID detection, etc. It works perfectly fine (and with incredible performance) with every web I go, HTML5 or not... except with the 'new Sokker', as it seems.

i can't watch the matches, neither 2D or 3D, except with the Flash version, and that will last only until they remove the option, when I wont't be able to see any match at all.

Not sure if maybe the OS version could also affect (I'm not using W10 202H) or be the real cause, as with IE11 the same happens (gear not working, matches not showing). But, in either case, I have to infere that the devs, with their obsession to focus the game towards moblile phones, have cared a heck about system compatibility and user preferences respect to browser with their choosen implementation of things.

Which is not a good thing, as lest regading the consideration than (long time or not) users should deserve, users who aould also take as something very offensive (at least, I do) to be forced/pushed to 'upgrade', without any wartning or testing period, in order to keep playing the game they have been for years without any problem.

A thing is sure for me: I am NOT upgrading anything just for the 'new Sokker', as I could not care less about 'new and modern' graphics, notifications, pre-match screens, and such unnecesary and annonying (imho, of course) stuff. What I do care about are my eyes (and, in any case, I think the 'Clear skin', for what I have seen, won't be much less harmful that this 'Dark one', so I wonder how much longer I will bear staying around).

Yet if you don't mind doing it, I guess you should end seeing the gear working if you upgrade everithing (nevertheless, you could try and confirm on your own by acessing the page from another PC before).

It is not a question of version. I tried from a portable version of Firefox and the menu is not displayed either.
I had the idea to look at "See source code" and search all the buttons one by one until I found the one after "inbox". There I found the links to:
- profile
- idioms
- index / action / start
So, now I know that to exit or change assignments, I will now have to go to:
sokker.org/index/action/start
