Subject: [idea] names from other databases

Charles Hill to All
Something for in the (near) future maybe, hopefully

In the Netherlands we have players with names from different countries, but it is impossible to combine the first name with the right surename in national databases. So we get strange combinations in our junior school.

This is for example very strange, makes no sense: Badr van den Brink

Moroccan first name and Dutch surename.

It would be nice to have players with the right names, Combination of names directly from other databases would solve this problem, so the names are correct, An X procent from other databases, for example 5% chance to get such a player name in junior school. And the mod/admin should be able to link a few countries. For the Netherlands that would be Marocco, Turkey and Belgium (and Suriname if this country would be in Sokker). So juniors have names from these countries, but are normal Dutch players,

To be clear, with this idea I don't mean international juniors (that is a different idea, other topic), this is just to make sure the names of players are correct, instead of strange combinations, like Badr van den Brink

I thnk (many) more countries have groeps of people in their country with different names, that don't make sense when combined

Nice suggestion it makes sense!

In Guatemala we have a lot of "Westphal" players, I've never heard of that surname before.

I like the idea.

Players' (and coaches') names and surnames, and also the first and second parts for randomizing team names, are stored in lists, exclusive for each county (that is, names from several counties can not 'mix'). That is, if there are players wich appear with 'odd' names or surnames, it is because those names and surnames are in that country's respective list.

The staff members of the country have access, and can add and delete, the entries in those lists, so they should be the ones to contact to address those issues. Ideally, those in the staff who 'mess' with the names should be completent people, intending to do things well and coherently, yet errata or mistakes might happen nevertheless (in Spain, for instance, there have been issues with surnames wrongly tipem like 'Perez' -wrong- instead 'Pérez' -correct-). If someone is detected, they can be reported to your staff so they can fix them.

That at least is how it worked when i was Mod. I don't know if they could have made changes there with the new developments.

Not yet anyways...

However... Could it be a possibility you set a small % of other countries coming out for your country, having a name out of the representative country.
So F.E.... as said... in Belgium there are some Moroccan, Polish, Italian, Greek or Turkish inhabitants. Let the cpu calculate native (95%) or migrated (5%).
2nd point... native = always 100% native name, migrated = 100 / amount of possible other natives (5 in this example) to determine the % for each nation in which nation names pool the name should come out of.
3th... Calculation which nation comes out to be selected for the name! In this case has each nation 20% chance to be chosen...
4th...generation of full name out of the chosen nation, so if Polish is chosen, the player should have a full Polish name, chosen out of the Polish names pool.

I think it's also common that the children of strangers get a local name while keeping the family surname, for a better integration in the country

If it makes sence...yes.

But names like Steve Al Haoud or Kees Brassavarella... it's ridiculous :-p

Some portuguese players have very silly or strange surnames. Some are somehow funny, but after a while i find them very repetitive (poor database maybe).

Theese are some of the surnames i've seen in sokker but never in real life:

-Mal Sentado (badly seated)
-Engenheiro (engineer)
-Africano (african)

Any portuguese manager who agrees?

Mal Sentado xD

You can contact the linquist, or else the admin or mod, to tell them names are very strange. I think they will be okay to delete the names that really make no sense.

If names really make no sense, they should not be in the database! I personally think it is strange to make it a funny list, or even to have a fw funny names in it. It is not a funny list but name database.

Sorry, I wrote future scouting of international juniors, but now I see you didn't want that.
It is impossible to get it right with current random name random surname choice.

Yep, impossible unfortunatly

The other solution is to introduce more name databases to one country, so other combinations can be made.
