Subject: [NT U21] Malaysia-India
- 1
Tomorrow the first of 2 very important matches of the U21 squad.
Being still in contention for 2nd place in the Group a win is a must !
The best squad is fully fit, no suspensions, so that shouldn't cause any problems.
When the strikers are just as sharp as against Ireland , I reckon this game should deliver us 3 points :
Malaysia U21 - India U21
0-2 De Generaal

A horrible result :(
I think De Generaal got the tactics wrong in this one.
The defenders were too far apart from each other and that's why they could get all those through balls. All 4 defenders should have been within the 6 yard box. They were also very deep. I would have rather they played for the off-side. Also, there was too much of a gap between the defs and def-mids.
The 2 def-mids were neither here now there. They weren't deep enough to tackle the attackers, nor were they far enough up the field to tacle the mids. I don't think we won a single goal kick also.
I think we would have had a better chance with ashvin starting. They played the 1st half with their secondary keeper. Unfortunately, the attackers didn't do much to trouble him.
I think we should've played a 4-2-2-2, with one def-mid on the right to stop their man on the right wing. Or maybe even a 4-1-3-2 with 3 defs within the 6 yard box and the fourth one at the right edge of the D to stop that man on the right.
Anyway, what's done is done. I hope everyone learns from this and we become stronger tactically.

Its correct, I had made another tactic, but somehow I didn't implement it for this match.
That tactic had defenders that were higher placed, defending mids higher placed and the attackers deeper.
The first half was really bad.
Our problem this season is the defending mids, Shefali has only solid pace (he always arrives too late at the position were he should be) and Yesh has only very good defending.
All other midfielders available have only solid defending or lower, so there is no other solution. They can't stop the wingers of the opponent so we have to play with at least 4 defenders. And if those defenders are too far back, its a very dangerous situation.
The defenders weren't placed too far apart, they were as close to eachother as possible. The biggest problem wasn't the through balls, but that the defs were too far back (which was caused by the tactics of the match before), so the Malaysian strikers had a lot of time to shoot. The goal resulted from a distance shot that the keeper dropped.
With Ashvin I don't agree, he has only adequate stamina, so he is much more dangerous with his speed in the 2nd half with their defenders getting tired. I can't guess before the match that he would start with a B-keeper......
If their 2nd half keeper (which must have had hopeless passing or something) is Malaysia's first goalkeeper, they have a big problem ! That we didn't score from his bad goalkicks was very unlucky.
In fact we did have a lot of changes 2nd half, especially from crosses and headers.
We still have a small chance :
- We win against Lietuva and Al Maghrib. To be fair: the Chili game will be lost.
- Ireland has to win against Lietuva and loose against Malaysia, Chili.
Standings will be :
2. India 16
3. Lietuva 15
4. Ireland 14
A very very very small chance I must say....

Oh I didn't know about Ashvin's stamina. In that case it was a good call.
Yes it does seem like a very small chance.
