Hong Kong - Venezuela 2:4 (1:3)
Ngai Siu Ki 5'

We were playing all the match with big hole in the center position in defence. It's a pity. It could be a very exciting and unpredictable match.

72.1 average mark - I'm glad because it is one of the best HK marks in lasts seasons.

nice one bartektyrka! perhaps we can invite more opinions from HK players?
here let me share our discussion on tactics of the NT =]

integritat

a little suggestion:
you might actually consider appointing Chun Kit as free-kick taker,
so he can make some quality passes to the forwards =]

bartektyrka

Ok, thanks for your notice, I will try this set ;)

integritat
well, just a wild play =P
you know, a free-kick is usually wasted if a striker takes it

also, you might consider ordering an extra player (a wing-back / DM) to go wide and take throw-ins, so the winger can cross the ball immediately, creating header chances/goals, this works well for my team. =] it is especially effective against a strong team when my team hardly organize an attack
(again, if the winger takes a throw-in, he can hardly find a target to pass to, usually it would turn out to be stolen by the opp, giving them a chance to counter-attack)

bartektyrka

So as you know it is risky sometimes :) I usually don't set any of the players as free-kicker because of this missed chances exactly. In my tactics free-kicker is the nearest player - I noticed that isn't make holes or places to counter-attack by opponent (set is preserved). But your thinking is interesting and I would like to test your plan in one of the strong matches next season (of course if i will be elected... :)).

integritat

just to share my wild style of play =]

but i did enjoy some success with the throw-in tactic when I was in charge of the U21 a long time ago =P

integritat

exciting game =]
not sure if you'd agree, but I did see improvement on the attacking side of the team using the new strategy.

for throw-ins: best to be taken by wing-backs, so they can cover their own position after taking the throw, and the DM does not need to move to the side, otherwise there'd be a hole in the middle

Chun Kit as DM: quite a lot to explore on this, you can see he has some potential to take part in attacking; and you can actually consider asking him to cover a larger area, either towards the ball or back with the CBs. in this game, he was at times left in the isle, neither marking the opp's forward nor trying to tackle the opp's midfielders

always great to discuss tactics =] as this is the unique feature of this game =]

As you can observate I used some of your tips in this match. But I also move forward the whole team (because last tactic was too deffensive than I could predict). So this is maybe why we could see improvement on the attacking side of HK - I mean: using Chun Kit as more offensive player and play more offensive as whole team. It was the first time so I'll correct what was wrong now. Maybe using def-wings to move forward and do throw-ins would be better idea to play versus Venezuela. But anyone can predict that we lost one of the player on the center position (red card) - and what was worse - made big whole for opp's strikers. Anyway, I want to continue play offensive. I will also use your tips and I will expand duties of some players.

It's a very good idea to share with other HK user this discussion :)

Best wishes!

sad match ~.~
the rule of Sokker: to have 2 Super Forwards with 18-18-18 skills,
then you can win with whatever formation =.="

nice to see some good crosses from the left-back 5. Junsheng,
one of them almost lead to a goal =]

Chun Kit's free-kick hit the bar, interesting

For defense:

Seems Chun Kit should stay back a bit, he could not catch up with the ball from time to time
The Centre-backs spread too wide, leaving much space in the middle, also, the wing-backs covered the off-side positions many times, the goalie had to face 2 strikers by himself =]

perhaps the defensive line was too high and can be set a bit deeper? seems our Defs do not possess the qualities (pace + def) to play such a high-line defense ...

anyway, interesting game and good efforts seen, nice work bart =]

totally agree

"The Centre-backs spread too wide, leaving much space in the middle" This is probably due to automatical man-marking. The opponents' strikers were very cleverly placed.

I think Chun Kit doesn't have enough playmaking to play as central/defensive midfielder. I would play him as wing-back to 1. cope with opponents' quick wingers/strikers drifting wide 2. occasionally burst forward and give a few good crosses. Also it's a good idea to let him take free kicks. I don't think we should worry too much about getting counter-attacked. The defense itself is leaky enough in many situations.

I always dislike the idea of playing high defense with defenders having low pace. Overall every players have to cover too much ground given their lack of pace, hampering both the passing game and defence.

Nice try for an interesting tactic, but it seems this tactic is not very suitable for Hong Kong NT.

(Only watched today's match in the past few weeks so comments may be biased)

First of all, it was a little bit embarrassing for me that we couldn't stop Ireland snipers... The most goals we lost after bad intervention our defs.

I set def line high because I saw last Ireland sets and I nocited that their coach like to play very agressive tactics with high-set snipers. So I decided that we should risk today and play more offensive anyway ;)

seems our Defs do not possess the qualities (pace + def) to play such a high-line defense

Just two of them are. But - how can we see - it's not enough.

Seems Chun Kit should stay back a bit, he could not catch up with the ball from time to time

Chun Kit had very difficult test today. His setting was variety and I was trying to give him a lot of work. I think that in the next match he will play more quietly and I will prepare something new in tactic.

I have to work with deffensive-set more. I'm even glad of attacking and playmaking, beacuse we weren't worse than Ireland. But I'm not happy of our defense. Opp's strikers were delighted...

Thanks for support!

Hong Kong has a friendly match against República Dominicana tommorow. I sent invitation to Dominicana coach but he didn't accept it yet. I also asked him in private message but I didn't recive a reply... :(

well, the opponent today did exactly what I described about throw-ins
you see? throw-ins are no jokes ^^

I agree with abcde that Chun Kit should be played on an aggressive wing-back position,
given his passing skills, he can makes some good crosses, and he can also take throw-ins

the opponent's no.6 (central mid) is actually my player =P
his skills are no better than Agbo Wing Kin, and in general, the opponent are no stronger than us,
so this game is good reference for Hong Kong =]

may be, we can switch to a 5-def formation, with Chun Kit as wing-back and use 2 Def-mids,
playing 1 winger less? welcome suggestions =]

Hello! We can see now that playing with only 4 def's isn't effective against every opp. I thought that Al Maghrib is easy to win and we should stay 4-4-2 position (and I moved winger deeper) and play more aggresive to score more goals. Also I decided to move forward all def-line to do exacly what I wrote higher. It wasn't good idea what can I see now. We've got nice ATT and MID position, we can make good and dangerous situations (we alaways had a lot of shoots and high ball-possesion and scored many goals lately) but I agree with you - we are losing a lot of efficiency playing with only 4 defs. So it will be changed immediately. What can I say more.. Chun Kit will return to def-line if we play with 5 defs - I'm sure that will make a big difference in deffensive. But I'm not sure to the end if we will play with 5 defs and 2 def-mids. it can worsen playmaking and potential that we have in the middle.
2015-07-27 18:46:26
I think in the last game we are a bit unlucky. They have an outstanding winger that made very efficient counter-attack. Of course in such situation it would be good to add another defender to 'look after' him. A lower defense line would probably help as well.

Still, I think the results was more of a result of the combination of (lack of) luck and our weak defenders than tactical catastrophe.

I invite you here to see what I prepared for Saturday.
