Relegation Coming with Rebuild (S72)
Despite being in a fair position to finish 9th halfway through the season (assuring an easy to win relegation qualifier), the Arsenal have fallen victim to previous 10th place club Balls of Steel being the beneficiary of not one but two easy victories over superior clubs putting out friendly lineups, while not getting the same benefit. These free 6 points all but guarantee a 10th place finish for the Arsenal as they had hoped to survive one more season on the backs of grandpa players nearing retirement. We decided to start selling off older players and begrudgingly lean into the rebuild.
Ownership has a bit of money they could spend but have chosen not to. The reason is due to larger concern is that with choosing to train our own future, combined with the unbalanced financial landscape of the game at large, finances down the line would become unsustainable. With all of the recent economic changes within the game, running a club based on stadium income and success on the pitch is no longer viable. The Chairman's hope is that the club will spend just one season in A3, and then promote back to ML the following season. At this point the club should be capable enough to not auto-relegate again, and finances should be stabilized.
The current rebuild is the first the franchise has endeavored to do since its founding.
The Chairman gambled on using first generation players to succeed in ML, as the landscape of ML then was considerably weaker than it is now. Although several trophies were acquired over the seasons, including a Cup silver in 69 and an ML silver in 70, no gold trophies were earned. Vegas and Atlantic had too much talent.
Currently, the second gen prospects are age 20-22. The senior members of the class are former American U21 star Dakota Hodge, and Bosnian defender Sadat Hibic.
We also have young future Chilean attacker Washington Oliwa (18) training, but he is currently available for purchase as his age and position is just too young to fit in with this group.
The club is investigating central midfield trainee options in his place, and if the right prospect matches with the right price, ownership will pull the trigger.
