On the cold and rainy night, the Italy custodian's brightly coloured gloves were hardly put to use. However, the veteran stopper could do nothing to keep out Paraguay's first goal with their very first shot on target. Was curiously taken off at half-time and replaced with the inexperienced Federico Marchetti.
Giorgio Chiellini - 6.5
The Italian centre-back had an assured game at the back and hardly put a foot wrong. However, his lack of pace could return to haunt him against the faster and stronger teams.
Fabio Cannavaro - 7
The Italy captain's proved that he still has the legs for the big stage as he displayed another sturdy performance at the heart of the Italian defence.
Domenico Criscito - 6
The left-back had a comfortable first-half but was occasionally troubled by Carlos Bonet during the second-half. Was not particularly impressive on the offence.
Gianluca Zambrotta - 6.5
The AC Milan right-back got off to a good start and looked impenetrable. However, he got increasingly frustrated after Paraguay took the lead. Defence aside, Zambrotta contributed to the Italian attacking contingent by delivering a couple of crosses from the right but simply lacked the pace to trouble the Paraguay defence.
Daniele De Rossi - 7.5
The man-of-the-match for me. The fiery and aggressive midfielder scrapped the all important equalizer for the Azzurri after the Paraguay goalkeeper flapped at a corner. Was the driving force for Italy against the tough and stubborn Paraguay defence and looked the brightest spark for his side.
Riccardo Montolivo - 6.5
Failed to capitalize on a slip-up in the Paraguay defence, delivering a tame shot that hardly troubled Justo Villar. Else, he commanded the midfield with gusto and was close to scoring the winning goal if not for a good save from Justo Villar.
Alberto Gilardino (Off 72') - 5
A tough outing for Florentina striker as he was hardly given any space and sniff at goal. Was taken off in the 72nd minute.
Claudio Marchisio (Off 58') - 5
Had an unimpressive game in the midfield and made little contribution to the game. Was taken off in the 58th minute.
Simone Pepe - 6.5
The midfielder had a decent game on the right wing and showed some moments of brilliance, delivering a couple of tempting crosses from the right. Was also given acres of room to barrage down the right wing and a chance to score a spectacular bicycle kick which he failed miserably.
Vincenzo Iaquinta - 5.5
The striker was hounded by the Paraguay defence the moment he touched the ball. Thus, he had little space and time to make any significant contribution to the Italian attack. Did not make full use of the opportunities he had on the wing, wasting the ball away on several occasions.

The inexperienced goalkeeper was a surprised replacement for Buffon at half-time but was hardly tested in the second half.
Mauro Camoranesi (On 58') - 6.5
Why was he not in the starting line-up? Had an immediate impact when he came on and injected pace and trickery the Italians were so desperately lacking on the night. Collected a yellow-card for a badly timed tackle.
Antonio Di Natale (On 72') - 6
Had a good chance to score the winning goal from a cross but was inches away from reaching it.
