Andorra’s Spirited Fight Against Portugal Ends in Defeat
Week 6: Andorra vs Portugal – 2:4 (1:4)
Stadium: Principat d'Andorra, Attendance: 47101
Starting XI – Andorra
GK: Campos
DEF: Oliva, Major, Abulí, Puig-arnal, Triquell
MID: Alibert, Salvà, Pararols
ATT: Jordana, Ginesta
Substitutes:
Guardiola (60'), Pean (70'), Vilarrubla (75'), Genís Acosta (75')
Match Highlights
On a rainy Saturday evening at the Principat d'Andorra Stadium, the home team battled Portugal in a World Cup qualifier that drew a crowd of 47,101 spectators, filling 78% of the stands. Despite the challenging weather conditions, Andorra showed both grit and determination, ultimately succumbing to a 2-4 defeat against a stronger Portuguese side.
Andorra, missing key players Fèlix Casamitjana, Ignasi Benaset, and Ventura Sucarana due to injuries, fielded a starting eleven led by Carles Jordana, who shone brightly with two well-taken goals. His clinical finishing and unyielding spirit kept the hosts in the game, while Crístian Abulí marshaled the defense with authority, and Benet Salvà orchestrated the midfield with relentless energy.
Portugal dominated the first half, racing to a 4-1 lead by halftime. The Andorran defense struggled to contain their opponents' attacking prowess, conceding four goals for the third consecutive match. However, the second half told a different story. Andorra, undeterred by Pere Oliva’s red card in the 49th minute, regrouped and showcased remarkable resilience. Jordana’s second goal and Pean’s contribution as a substitute, providing an assist, highlighted a much-improved performance.
The home side not only secured the second-half advantage with a 1-0 scoreline but also demonstrated the kind of fighting spirit that resonated with the supportive crowd. The absence of any injuries during the game was another small victory for the Andorrans.
General Comment
Facing a formidable Portuguese team, the hosts displayed commendable determination and teamwork, particularly in the second half. However, conceding four goals for the third consecutive match is a worrying trend that must be addressed if Andorra hopes to climb higher in the qualification standings.
Currently sitting in fifth place in their group with six points and a goal difference of 11-12, Andorra has shown flashes of brilliance but struggles to maintain defensive solidity. The team’s spirited response after halftime, coupled with standout performances from Jordana, Abulí, and Salvà, provides a foundation to build upon as they prepare for future matches. For now, the players and fans can take solace in a solid second-half display and a valiant effort against one of the giants of European football.

They gave their all over the years. Especially Soyez, who orchestrated the team's midfield line. Now it's time to make room for the younger players knocking on the extended squad's door. Gaspar Asensi, Genís Acosta, Joan Ramon Fans, Joan Ramon Vagué, and Martí Sansa—they are the future of Andorra.
It’s been a tough week at work, but I finally managed to prepare a short report from the last match.
Portugal 2-1 Andorra: A Hard-Fought Battle Ends in Narrow Defeat
Week 10: Portugal vs Andorra – 2:1 (0:1)
Stadium: Portugal Arena, Attendance: 52136
Starting XI – Andorra
GK: Campos
DEF: Major, Abulí, Puig-arnal, Triquell, Auriola
MID: Alibert, Salvà, Pararols
ATT: Jordana, Ginesta
Substitutes:
Fernandes (65'), Casal (70'), Pean (70'), Guardiola (76'), Soldevila (76'),
Match Highlights:
Andorra fought valiantly but fell just short in a tightly contested match against Portugal at the Portugal Arena. With a crowd of 52,136 (86% attendance), Andorra had a strong start, holding a 1-0 lead at halftime. The early goal came from Bartomeu Ginestà, who made the most of a well-executed opportunity to give his side a crucial advantage.
However, in the second half, Portugal ramped up their attack, equalizing and eventually securing the win with a second goal that turned the tide in their favor. Despite the loss, Andorra’s defense, led by the tireless Benet Salvà in midfield and a solid performance from Juli Major as a substitute for the injured Pere Oliva, kept the Portuguese at bay for much of the game.
There were no injuries during the match, and the game ended with Andorra maintaining their solid form despite the defeat.
General Comment:
The match provided a great test for Andorra, and although they were unable to hold onto their 1-0 lead, their performance showed resilience and discipline. The team’s average rating for the match was 69.3, reflecting a strong but ultimately narrow loss. The match strategy had been to play a more defensive game, a tactic that worked for much of the first half. Unfortunately, a late surge from Portugal shifted the momentum in their favor. Andorra, however, learned from their previous 2-4 defeat in an exchange of blows and sought to implement a more controlled approach this time.
With Andorra in 4th place in the World Cup qualification group, their chances of advancing are slim, but their performance remains commendable, with 10 points and a balanced goal difference of 16-16. The upcoming rematch with Germany promises to be another challenging encounter, especially after Andorra’s previous thrilling 5-4 victory. However, their chances against the reigning world champions appear remote, with a tough road ahead.
The next match promises to be another battle of survival as Andorra looks to regroup and fight for every point they can get.

Andorra Defeats Peru in Tough Battle
Week 12: Perú vs Andorra – 1:2 (0:0)
Stadium: Perú Arena, Attendance: 60000
Starting XI – Andorra
GK: Campos
DEF: Major, Gaurdiola, Puig-arnal, Triquell, Abulí
MID: AFernandes, Salvà, Alibert
ATT: Ginestà, Sot
Substitutes:
Auriola (60'), Paraols (67'), Casal (76'), Soldevila (76'), Pean (82'),
Match Highlights:
On a rainy Saturday night at Perú Arena, Andorra secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Peru in front of a packed crowd of 60,000. It was a hard-fought match, with both teams locked in a goalless first half, but Andorra’s resilience and determination paid off in the end.
Bartomeu Ginestà was the hero of the night, scoring both goals for Andorra. His attacking presence proved decisive, even as Peru mounted pressure in the closing stages after reducing the deficit to 1-2. Midfielder Benet Salvà played a key role in controlling the tempo, offering stability in midfield, while Nicolau Puig-arnal and Gaspar Guardiola led a solid defensive line that withstood Peru’s late surge.
Despite difficult pre-match circumstances, with key players like Carles Jordana and Pere Oliva unavailable due to injuries, Andorra managed to put together a strong performance. Coach’s tactical adjustments and timely substitutions, including the introduction of Auriola and Casal in the second half, helped the team hold on to their lead until the final whistle.
General Comment:
This victory was particularly significant given the team’s previous 0-4 loss to Peru in the first round. Adjusting the squad and mindset after such a heavy defeat was a challenge, but Andorra showed great mental strength and discipline. The players handled the pressure well, especially in the tense final minutes when Peru pushed aggressively for an equalizer.
With this win, Andorra now sits in 4th place in the World Championship qualifying group, with 13 points and a goal difference of 18-19. The team’s hopes of advancing to the tournament remain alive, depending on favorable results in the final round of Group A matches.
Up next, Andorra will face Prathet Thai in a cup rematch. Having won the first leg 4-0, the team is in a strong position, but they must remain focused to avoid any surprises

As you said, anything can happen tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that the ME sokker will favour us, despite the absences of several key players (Jordana, Oliva, Salva, Vilarrubla, Guardiola, Casal). I am counting on their replacements to rise to the occasion and lead the team to victory.
@everyone
As you may have noticed, the elections for the representation have begun. I have submitted my candidacy for the upcoming season 73. I encourage you to vote for me if you believe you would like me to continue working with you.
