Andorra Dominates Prathet Thai in Impressive 6-0 Victory

Week 13: Andorra vs Prathet Thai – 6:0 (4:0)
Stadium: Principat d'Andorra, Attendance: 31290

Starting XI – Andorra

GK: Campos
DEF: Major, Puig-arnal, Triquell, Abulí
MID: Fernandes, Pean, Alibert, Paraols
ATT: Soldevila, Sot

Substitutes:

Auriola (65'), Sansa (79'), Mauri (80'), Acosta (80')

Match Highlights:

On a chilly Saturday evening at the Principat d'Andorra Stadium, the home team delivered a resounding 6-0 victory over Prathet Thai in front of 31,290 spectators. Despite numerous injuries and suspensions reducing the squad's options, Andorra put on a commanding performance to secure a much-needed win in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Missing key players like Benet Salvà, Carles Jordana, and Pere Oliva, Andorra still managed to outperform their opponents with remarkable efficiency. The hosts took control early, netting four goals in the first half and adding two more after the break.

Martí Sot stole the spotlight with an incredible hat-trick, demonstrating clinical finishing throughout the match. His performance was complemented by Soldevila, who also bagged three goals. Assists came from Pean (twice), Paraols (twice), and Soldevila (once), showcasing Andorra's well-organized attacking play.

Key performances included Hèctor Alibert's commanding presence in midfield, where he controlled the pace and provided vital defensive cover. Juli Major excelled on the right side of the defense, while Marià Paraols was outstanding on the wing, contributing two crucial assists.

Coach adjustments were also vital. The decision to adopt a formation featuring four defenders and a single advanced winger paid dividends, giving Andorra the width and stability they needed to dominate play.

General Comment:

Despite Andorra's emphatic win, their hopes of progressing to the next round were dashed as Germany's draw with Peru meant Andorra finished third in their group. Both Andorra and Peru finished with 16 points, but Andorra's goal difference of 24-19 narrowly kept them behind.

This victory, however, demonstrates Andorra's resilience in the face of adversity, especially with multiple key players unavailable. Looking ahead, Andorra will face Honduras in a friendly match, providing an opportunity to build on this positive momentum.

Farewell to the Andorran National Team: Valeri Bernaus and Àlex Coma End Their International Careers

The Andorran national team bids farewell to two distinguished players: Valeri Bernaus (33) and Àlex Coma (34). Both players were included in the extended squad for season 72 but did not get a chance to play on the field. Their departure is due to their advanced age and declining form, which prevented them from effectively competing at the international level.

Valeri Bernaus, a forward, played 66 matches for the national team, scoring 15 goals and providing 4 assists. His dedication and attacking prowess were crucial elements of Andorra's offensive play for many years.

Àlex Coma, an experienced defender, made 82 appearances for the national team, contributing to its defensive stability. Although he was not known for frequent offensive statistics, he managed to register 3 assists, and his consistency and determination were invaluable.

The decision to retire from international football was a difficult one, but both the coaching staff and the players themselves agreed that it was the right time to give younger talents a chance. Valeri Bernaus and Àlex Coma have earned their place in Andorran football history as models of professionalism and dedication to the national team.

The Andorran Football Federation and fans would like to sincerely thank both players for their contributions to the development of the national team. Their commitment, determination, and years of hard work for the team deserve the highest recognition.

Thank you for everything, and best of luck in your future endeavors!

Andorra Triumphs 0-2 in Rainy Clash Against Honduras

Week 01: Honduras vs Andorra – 0:2 (0:0)
Stadium: Honduras Arena, Attendance: 5946

Starting XI – Andorra

GK: Campos
DEF: Major, Puig-arnal, Triquell, Abulí, Auriola
MID: Fernandes, Paraols, Salvà
ATT: Jordana, Sot

Substitutes:

Mauri (61'), Pean (61'), Sansa (65'), Fans (71'), Acosta (71')

Match Highlights:

On a rain-soaked Saturday evening at Honduras Arena, the Andorran national team secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Honduras in an international friendly. Despite challenging weather conditions marked by heavy rain and thick cloud cover, Andorra delivered a composed performance, effectively controlling the match and capitalizing on key moments.

With several key players missing due to injuries and suspensions—including Pere Oliva, Sebastià Ugalde, Gaspar Guardiola, and Pere Joan Casal—Andorra relied on their depth to overcome the odds. The starting eleven, anchored by goalkeeper Campos and defensive standout Crístian Abulí, kept Honduras at bay throughout the first half, which ended goalless.

The breakthrough came in the second half, with Jordana finding the net to give Andorra the lead. Later, substitute Genís Acosta added a second goal to secure the win. While no assists were officially recorded, both goals showcased Andorra's resilience and determination.

Defensively, Eusebi Triquell impressed with his solid performance on the flank, successfully containing Honduras' wingers. Crístian Abulí demonstrated strong leadership in defense, ensuring the backline remained organized. The absence of in-game injuries allowed Andorra to maintain their structure throughout.

Yellow cards were shown to Pean and Fernandes, but Andorra avoided any significant disciplinary concerns. Despite playing in front of a modest crowd of 5,946 spectators, Andorra maintained focus and determination.

General Comment:

The match served as an important test for Andorra's squad depth. With several regulars unavailable, coach's decision to rotate the squad provided valuable insights into the team's strength in reserve. The performance demonstrated a balance of discipline, defensive solidity, and opportunistic finishing.

This victory offers promising signs ahead of Andorra's upcoming friendly against Spain, where further squad experimentation may continue.

New Faces in Andorra's National Football Squad: Quimet Fans and Joan Pau Gou

Andorra's national football team has welcomed two fresh faces to its senior squad ahead of their much-anticipated friendly match against España. The new additions, Quimet Fans and Joan Pau Gou, are both 23 years old and have been key figures in the Andorran U21 setup. Their inclusion marks an exciting chapter for the national team as coach Sant Jordi looks to reinforce his roster with emerging talents.

Quimet Fans, a robust defender from PEBROTS, has earned his spot in the extended senior squad following consistent performances for the U21 team. Fans has steadily developed into one of the most reliable defensive options in Andorra's youth system.

Joining Fans in the squad is Joan Pau Gou, a talented goalkeeper currently playing for Tennessee Titans. Like Fans, Gou has been a regular feature in the U21 side, demonstrating sharp reflexes and a commanding presence in the penalty area.

With Andorra preparing to face España, the opportunity for both young players to make their senior debuts has sparked excitement among fans and pundits alike. While their primary role for now is to strengthen the squad depth, both Fans and Gou have the potential to establish themselves as key figures in the national team's future.

Overall Manager comment:

Andorra is my first national team, and I'm glad I ended up here. I consider this season solid in many respects. We managed to achieve a good result during the WC qualifiers (3rd place with 16 points, the same number of points as the 2nd place). The squad has been updated. Old players (without chances of playing) were let go, and young players, who could become the core of the team in the future, were introduced. There were a few nice debuts, a few lucky moments (a win against the World Champions - Deutschland), and excitement until the very end.

And most importantly, I managed to connect with you and share what’s happening around the national team. :)

Thanks for the kind words! Season 73 will have a different character. This season won't involve such a major squad change since we've already completed a substantial roster update. I'll probably focus on refining a few tactical variations to be better prepared for the upcoming Euro Championship matches, which start in Week 4.

Debutants Gou, Fans, and Asensi Impress in Andorra's España Clash

Despite holding España to a 0-0 draw, Andorra's squad showcased promising talent with three debutants making solid first impressions: Joan Pau Gou, Quimet Fans, and Gaspar Asensi. Each brought energy and determination, offering hope for the team's future.

Joan Pau Gou, at just 23 years old, played a crucial role in stabilizing Andorra's backline. Introduced at halftime, Gou's 45-minute display was impressive. His calm demeanor and tactical awareness shone through, particularly in the closing stages when España's star striker, Sidro, threatened to extend the lead. Twice in the final moments, Gou made vital interventions to deny Sidro clear scoring chances.

Quimet Fans may have had only 18 minutes on the pitch, but he ensured his presence was felt. Operating on the right side of central defense, Fans brought a burst of energy and aggression that kept España's attacking unit on alert.

Gaspar Asensi had the toughest task of the evening: facing España's disciplined defense for the full 90 minutes. Despite their resilience, Asensi carved out a golden opportunity, striking the crossbar in what could have been a memorable debut goal. Though he failed to find the net, Asensi's tireless work rate and intelligent movement provided Andorra with a consistent attacking threat.
