Gaspar Guardiola, Distinguished Star of Andorra, Says Farewell to International Football
Gaspar Guardiola, one of the most respected players in Andorran football, has decided to end his international career at the age of 36. The central defender, who started his football journey as a youth player at Torb, has been a key figure in the national team for many years.
Guardiola played 124 matches for Andorra, scoring two goals and providing two assists. His main strength, however, was not in scoring but in defending. For years, he was the solid rock in the centre of defence, a leader on and off the pitch, and someone his teammates could always rely on.
During coach MTK’s time in charge in season 72, Guardiola appeared in 8 matches, spending 476 minutes on the pitch and starting in three games. These were his last appearances for the national side. In seasons 73 and 74, he did not play a single minute.
Guardiola explained that his decision was due to a drop in his abilities, making it hard to compete at the highest international level. It was a choice made with honesty and respect for the team. Although he will no longer wear the national shirt, Gaspar Guardiola leaves behind a legacy that will inspire the next generation of Andorran players.

Fresh Faces for the Future: Asdrúbal Herder Makes His Senior Debut
The game between Pilipinas and Andorra was special for one young player. In the 76th minute, 24-year-old defender Asdrúbal Herder came on for his first ever match with the senior national team. He replaced Eusebi Triquell, a 34-year-old veteran of Andorra’s defence. It felt like the start of a new generation taking over.
Herder played for 14 minutes, but he showed why he earned his call-up. His form this season has been excellent, and in this short time he stayed calm, defended well, and made no mistakes. He covered space quickly and showed confidence against strong opponents.
Coaches and teammates said it was a solid first step. Even though it was only a few minutes, Herder proved he is ready to work for a place in the team.
For fans, the match in Pilipinas will not only be about the final score. It will also be remembered as the day Asdrúbal Herder wore the Andorra shirt for the first time — and showed he might be part of the team’s future.

Baixenc Back in the National Picture: A Veteran Defender Earns His Call-Up
It is not often that a player makes his way back into the national team conversation at the age of 32. Yet this week, Andorran football has written just such a story. Moisès Baixenc, a name once familiar from the U21 ranks, has been called up by head coach MTK to join the senior squad for the upcoming international window.
Baixenc, currently anchoring the defense at Serbian side Provalija under the guidance of coach Vacke, has enjoyed a renaissance in recent months. His commanding presence at the back and renewed sharpness have not gone unnoticed. For a player who last wore Andorra’s colors as a U21 international—collecting nine caps without a goal or assist—the return to the national setup carries special significance.
For the veteran defender, it is a chance to bring leadership, composure, and perhaps one last chapter to his international career. Andorran supporters will be watching closely. After years of quiet dedication abroad, Moisès Baixenc is back where he once belonged: wearing the national badge, ready to fight for his country.

Despite conceding so late, Andorra’s performance must be regarded as highly encouraging. The team displayed a very good level of play—their average rating stood at 69.6—showing resilience, tactical awareness, and moments of brilliance.

Looking ahead, the team now faces an even greater challenge: the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Deutschland. It will be a decisive test of Andorra’s progress, but with momentum, determination, and the fighting spirit shown in Hayastan, their chances remain realistic.
