Subject: World Cup Qualifying

Rotfl. You can win, by playing better, thanks to tactic. But if you have 14 shots less, and you get a draw - then you have luck. Simple as that. In your last game against France it was 15:3 in shots and you lost 5:0. Now it should've been same result, but you had loads of luck. same against Canada - you've got trashed. Today you just had luck.

Nobody is saying we didnt have luck... what I am saying is: "pay attention: we always have luck... ¿isnt it time to try new explanations for that? Perhaps this guys are working, planning every match, training wisely their players, etc, etc"... but no... you all prefare to ignore this and reduce everything to luck.

Thats ok, as I said. But allow me to keep bothering you with my anti-establishment speech.

France 5:0 Uruguay
Canada 5:0 Uruguay

You don't always have luck. These results were normal. Today, and against Lietuva, you had luck.

So sorry, but face it.

As I said before... discussion never pointed wether we were lucky or not... its understood that Uruguay winning or drawing against any greater country must have some luck.

The point of the discussion (originated when we won to Lietuva) was if everything can be the result of random or is there something else playing (such as an extraordinary tactical scheme).
2009-03-14 16:32:25
Making a witty tactic, which will discover all weak points of opponents tactics is definitely helping in gaining advantage against better opponents. But in these cases...16:2 and...sorry - that's luck...

France 5:0 Uruguay

Thats a misleading result. First period ended 0:0 just like in this match. In the second period, from minute 60 onwards France scored every single chance they had.

Canada 5:0 Uruguay

Canada was very superior and we played with reserves... end of discussion.

Matches are matches. Luck is always involved, but tactics are also always involved... we changed tactics, and luck also changed... whats the matter with that? is it so difficult to recognice we are doing things well? Perhaps to bigger countries its easier to blame every bad result on luck and not on their own poor tactical approaches ;)

Well I would never be proud of a game in which opponent would have 16 shots, and my team had only 2. No matter the result.

borkos... I think you are an experienced player... you know the ME penalizes high levels of striking... you know a striker with magical striking can waste 20 goal chances, and you know it because surely it happened to you a lot of times. And you know a player with adequate striking perhaps makes the only chance he has. Thats not only luck but a particular configuration of the ME that make striking levels above formidable almost useless.

You know a team can set a tactique prioritizing counter-attacking and passing, and that the team with 2 shots perhaps had 5 or 6 very dangerous goal chances that didnt end in a shot but in a pass or in a defender taking the ball just in the goal line.

So dont reduce things to number of shots comparison, please.

It has nothing to do with striker level. It's a handicap - if one team is much better than the other during the game, ego has 10+ more shots, then it has problems with finishing. And the weak one score 50/100/200% of shots.

You know a team can set a tactique prioritizing counter-attacking and passing, and that the team with 2 shots perhaps had 5 or 6 very dangerous goal chances that didnt end in a shot but in a pass or in a defender taking the ball just in the goal line.

Well, but how many of those chances which didn't ended with a goal etc. did France had?

just watch the game...

I dont expect anybody to ignore we were lucky. I just want to make it clear that you have to help luck in order to get this kind of results. We have exactly the same number of points that France has and we already played 6 matches!!!! that cannot be only luck my friend.

what do your fellow managers from uruguay think about the game? I'd like to know their opinion in this thread :)
2009-03-14 18:07:14
I would say we were as lucky today as unlucky in the prior match. 2 or 3 goals per match would give France the victory in both cases but they outperformed the first match and then underperformed in this match.

Uruguay did not put an extraordinary tactic but an effective one. The goal was all in the mind of Mr. Peluffo passing, Dalmonte heading, and if not a goal, David taking the free ball if any. I like when a tactical figure comes to true like this.

Lucky, of course, but I think Mr. make that lucky possible. We have an excellent performance of the goalkeeper, but is not the first of this goalkeeper, so we cannot say is pure luck. (I have to note that in my opinion the reserve is even better). On the other hand France take a defensive tactical figure, turned offensive by the quality of their players, which excel at passing the ball by example. But they only could achieve one goal by a heading.

As panchoahead said, luck yes, but not pure luck.
