Subject: Is Sokker dying?
Maybe I'm in a pessimistic mood, but today I asked myself the question again if Sokker is a game that is dying.
Personally I think this game has not much of a future left in it. There's a list of reason's we can citate to explain this. There are many serious problems throughout the game that prevent it from booming. Sokker is standing still and standing still in this genre means certain death. I see many experienced users leaving, new users leaving because the entry level is to high, very few new subsciptions compared to other games, gost town-like fora, deteriorating activity, little creativity, devs that are plants and so on. Only few people care anymore about what is happening here. Surely when the passion is gone, the game is finished?
Am I correct with these statements? Do you believe there still lies a beautiful future within Sokker, just like in the early days? Or am I just a pessimistic nostalgic who believes everything was better yesterday? Please let me hear your opinion!

yesno ... don't think that SK will die but if the devs will be so "active" then i don't see a bright future :(( but i hope im wrong
No, because ...
- the number of users seems constantly to variate between 66.000 and 70.000. That means that if experienced managers leave, newborns will stand up (or maybe old managers take a new team).
- Sure, there are problems that prevent this game from booming and you gave some good examples. But that doesn't mean sokker is dying. It's an online football game and the concept they worked out is more than enough for me. You can search for goals in this game for yourself and the options are quite numerous.
- Only few people care anymore about what is happening here This isn't a problem only reserved to Sokker but don't be affraid to see this in a much broader perspective :) I hope you see my point if you'll read some of the last posts I made in the topic "Future NT stars".
Maybe ask yourself why you play it and maybe your pessimism turns to a beautifull thing. As we say in dutch: Zolang je glas halfvol is, stellen zich weinig problemen :)

Maybe Hells' glass is half empty? ;)

I still get a kick out of Thursday's, and as long as that continues i don't care about the other stuff that could be improved that others think is the end of the world.
The buzz of pulling juniors, selling players and seeing the pops mean no love is lost here!

Which is exactly the same for every unprofessional online game you play or have ever played...
if experienced users leave, then it creates space for new users eventually as their team ages and gets replaced...
the game itself is not improving though :/
its an issue.. personally im looking for something which improves with user input...
the games progression is way too slow.. especially for a new team i think, to try and reach the top.. the only way thats possible is making money in transfer market through poxy deals and arranged sales... most of which is not exactly exciting...

Sokker is not the main focus of the devs, they administer it in their spare time. They still have regular jobs, because, like all online games with the possible exception of Hattrick and perhaps a few others, the real life money they make out of the game is not enough. Not enough to sustain the servers, nor to make a living out of it. Anyone who would buy SK would face the same problems, I'm afraid.
Personally I don't think the game is dying. If anything Sokker is stagnating, but even so it is way more fun and entertaining than any other online football manager game I've played.

First results:
Yes, because.. 44% (19)
No, because.. 26% (11)
Show me the results 30% (13)
I'm a surprised by this result. I thought I was one of the few thinking like this but it seems I am not alone. Can we also conclude that many people have not thought about this issue since 13 people could not make up there mind?

No because I like this game, it is great fun for me, and still in croatia we have 40-50 managers playing this game very active so I just like to play against them, make new tactic, use economy skills write on forum with lot of my sokker and real life friends.....so sokker won't die and I will play it until is fun for me and until I will have time to log in for at least hour/week....but devs should make some new things here just to hold some half active users
it's hard to answer your poll. It depends on what you see as dying.
- less users
- no improvements
- people stay less long

Feel free to answer this open question in a way that you seem fitting.
I'd not say it's dying but it's in a very precarious position. The all round lack of progress has made this game stagnant and offers practically no optimism for things getting any better, which wouldn't be a problem if everyone was happy with the game but they're not, not by a long way. Personally I'm bored of this game and I suspect I'll be quitting at the end of this season because there's nothing to look forward to anymore.
I was told earlier today that this game is basically a 1-man show now in terms of the work being done on it. This is a game with 70,000 users and it's being held together by volunteers and 1 very overworked guy (and I have sympathy with the demands being made of him) but at some point you have to realise that this setup is unworkable, unsustainable and that progress in line with expectations impossible.
The saying goes that if you can't offer your customers what they want, they'll eventually go somewhere else. The main selling point of this game is the match engine (it could be argued that the subsequent tactic grid negates this), infact I'd say it's the only selling point of this game and it's what keeps people here, I'd also say it's a matter of time before a more professional game does the same, and at that point this game will be in significant trouble.
Oh and I give this thread 1 hour before it's shutdown, because that's the way this game works.
