Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2009-11-11 19:16:54
Try to train some defenders. You buy them as a 20 years old, and if you are lucky, you won't sell them with deficit when they reach the age of 25-26...
2009-11-11 19:17:29
i cant even get 15M for torres now, whos a little better, well maybe at the same level with saratxo
2009-11-11 19:19:56
Top class players are too far from me now :P so maybe you're right in that sector; on middle-class the prices are still rising a bit. And young trainees too.

Anyway, who plays sokker for the money? We play to win the top league and the national cup, not to make businesses. Of course it is important, but what should Greg do to fix this?
2009-11-11 19:22:13
You can't win the top league or the cup without decent players - and for buying them you have to have good economical situation ;)
2009-11-11 19:23:19
Ok, but the general financial situation of sokker is the same for everyone, isn't it? It's like when they change the engine, you can like the new engine or not, but it's the same for everyone.
2009-11-11 19:26:46
well, actually its not.... bigger countries in top leagues get more money than top teams in small countries
2009-11-11 19:29:02
So supply grew faster than demand. Fortunately, we have fully flexible prices in Sokker. Of cpurse, people making wrong forecast in the past may be losing money now, or not winning as much as expected. But if that's the case, it is good that prices fall: it is the right signal, "decrease supply at given cost", or, covnersely, "keep supply nut at lower cost", that is, pay less for trainees.
And that's OK becasue youngsters' supply is quite inelastic up to the point where you hit the (fixed) costs of having a youth school (whose existence iss tricky, because we have increasing returns to scale in youth schools). But I'm confident we are far from that point :P

Keep your economic mind tricks to yourself.
2009-11-11 19:36:24
its not the case.... because money supply has stayed the same... if we pay less for trainees we will have even more money... i dont want to imply thats its sokker fault of any kind, its just a situation where our valuations of elderly players went down for some reason, and it will change.. it just has to...

the underlying problem might be that too many teams can afford best youth team trainers, and that may result in increased supply of players, but that doesnt seem to be a reason because prices of trainees didnt go down

bigger countries in top leagues get more money than top teams in small countries

But that's obvious, if you are a top-team in a country with 400 users, you can't pretend to win the same money that a top-team in a 2000 user-country. Actually, teams in smaller countries have the advantage of being NT caps much easier than big countries.
2009-11-11 19:42:41
thats bullshit, best teams in small countries may be as good as teams in big countries, but for some reason teams in small countries have to face a lower cap of sponsor money and fan attendance...

and there is no point to say that small countries may have more players in NT. First of all its total nonsense, because this is a free transfer market without any limits for big countires to buy small countries players + there is no advantage in having Nt player, at all
2009-11-11 19:51:22
its just a situation where our valuations of elderly players went down for some reason, and it will change.. it just has to...

Well, prices won't go up if their demand doesn't increase enough. Poor teams who invested everything in young trainees won't get that much at current prices, so they can't contribute to rise demand much. Still, they can contribute some. The problem is you usually sell, say, a defender, to buy 2 or 3 mids/atts not as good as your defender (otherwise, you would more or less sell , buy 1, and leave the market untouched :P), plus some new trainee. So, is people above your level who really can increase the demand for your players, and they seem to have their rosters full.
On the other hand, as soon as managers sell their expensive juniors cheap, they will press the market for trainees down, sicne they won't have that much to spend. Top teams do have money, but, again, there's a size limit on how many juniors you can have and still train them.

Actually, I see a different reason whay people hoards money: players are not cheap, they are expensive. You said you have 10mln, that's more or less what I have (I had yesterday, anyway :P), and why don't I buy players? Becasue they are expensive, becasue a single near-to-top players costs 7mln or more. Then, it makes no sense to spend 10 mln in 2 5mln players, which are not better than the ones I sold, and I'm tired of seeing them play so poorley every sunday :P It only makes sense to keep my money until I can 26yo NT. All or nothing. And 26yo NT players have astronomical prices...

there is no advantage in having Nt player, at all

Quite true. However, it is a fact that NT players are sold at higher prices, for some reason. As a consequence, players from new countries are usually overpriced (perhaps preferences for exotic players play a role too :P)
2009-11-11 19:53:25
personally for me a lot of interest in national competition has been lost because all of the teams became more or less similar... all very close to have best possible squads, i mean at least 1 striker who is nearly 3x divine, 4~ 2x divine defenders and couple of top class mids....

i remember the times when every team had its own spirit... everyone playing against me knew that i had strong midfield, and they will probably loose possesion, but then i struggled to score because other teams had insane defense, or i lost anyway because even if i had possesion other team with great strikers scored more than me... only teams with all good players were national teams... but now top clubs are all almost the same, kinda in the same level with national teams

I've been NT coach for several seasons in Paraguay, I know what I'm talking about =) and yes, big countries buy those small NT players, but the owners still receive money for their transfers, apart from selling the youngers more expensive than big countries.

ive never seen a diference between player price who might get to nt ant the one who doesnt
for me its just a myth
