Subject: Is Sokker dying?
the problem is that majority of those who were potential long-term users already tried sokker and left. the number of users registering are falling very fast...
Yeh :) But there are also millions who never heard of Sokker Manager before and they are all potential new users ;)

advertising is needed but if you want to keep the new users you can gain from that there are structural problems to be solved. cosmetic changes alone won't be enough to achieve that.
a new user has no idea how this game works and once he does he has to face an immense financial wall to build up his team to compete with the users who've been around for longer. that's IF he did not work himself near to bankrupcy allready with beginner's mistakes.

But that's something we can't do anything about, that's up to greg ;) We can only focus on the things we CAN do, and advertising Sokker is 1 of them.
all i'm saying is: if only 1/10 stays for a few weeks (most actually quit after 1 day) then you're going to need a LOT of advertising to turn the dawnfall around.
real advertising should be mostly gregs job too
the game can spread through word-of-mouth by us, but most of us who have been playing for a while have already exhausted all options trying to get family/friends to play

Enough managers are trying to explain to greg that some changes are needed, and hopefully some things will change soon :)
Friends and family is a very small group of people compared to the thousands who visit one single soccer forum each day, and there are thousands of soccer- and sports forums, soccer- and sports games etc on the internet ;)
No use to focus on what we can't do, but on what we CAN do :)

As a fan of this game, I really do appreciate your attitude regarding advertising for this game, Charles. However, at some point you have to wonder if all the hard work is really worth it. As a practical example of this, I have been sending out a detailed 'Welcome to sokker' email to all new USA users since December 18th. In total, I have sent 37 emails to new users. Of those only 5 have been read and no one has responded back. That's 14% that even bothered to log back in after the initial registration. I'm definitely in agreement that we should advertise a game that I enjoy immensely, but a 14% retainment rate is terrible. I think most people would hope that their hard work would be worth more than a 14% success rate. As has been said, the retainment rate could probably be raised with some changes to cosmetics, better instructions, or other economical or game changes. At some point, I think most people would respond with, 'If you're not willing to make the necessary changes to retain new users, why should I spend all the extra effort (at my cost or time) to advertise your game? Just my thoughts on the matter.
Indeed, biggest problem is that most of the users who sign up don't seem to log in after registration...
Too bad Sokker always lands in Spambox :(

Business and Marketing - wise speaking; greg or whoever owns the company should take some money in his hands and advertise the game where geeks, like we probably are, are around. Websites that rate Webgames, Websites that offer Downloads or media. Concentrating on markets like Italy, France, Great Britain, Benelux and Germany where football is the main sport. Plus where the users will have the money to pay plus. I've never analyzed the potential of course but the ROI should be done in less than a year like that.
If you know even only a little about these things it is an easy call.
Now I wonder why I wrote this, because nobody of the staff will ever read this. Waste of my time.

and it's probably justified to put that mail in the spambox (because what's seen as 'promotion' here is actually spamming ...)

The easiest way to bring new users would be to buy an advert in a pc/football magazine. Not that expensive, but I think it would prove very rewarding.
You don't have the connection to the web there, but you have the football connection which should also work. But from what I have seen advertising in a big print media in Germany (like a quarter of a page) is more expensive than advertising on websites. The direction is the same though of course.
