Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2012-01-20 14:50:41
+ There is a lot more choice than there used to be, so any people that decide to play an online game have a choice of many rather than a choice of few.

some of the user who play sokker since many years, right now are thinking on leaving it and keep on playing other new manager they had been playing this last six months... I know some of them :(

If I read the rumors a few weeks ago, it's worth waiting a bit longer to see what is coming ;)

those improvements can't come sooner enough :)

I'm not so sure where people come up with 6 euros. A year of Plus is $30 or so. I paid for Plus for years. Figure I invested $150 in this game. There have been no substantial changes for as long as I can remember. Whether I can afford the $30 or not isn't the point - the $30 has to be worth something, either in increased functionality or a more enjoyable experience. I've been getting neither, so until they do something to earn my money I'm not paying.

for more than 3 times this season, the league matches in England has been delayed. these little things are enough to put some users off the game...

If little things like that do, they would have left anyway. Maybe a little later, but if you have some interest in the game, minor frustrations are just that: minor.

Well said, Amen to that.

+1

I guess server´s problems would be solved easier with more money to spend...

i dont think so.
if they wanted more money he would invest more time in this game and show continuing improvements.

even one minor change every second week or month would suffice to show interest... thats whats important to the user. to feel like they are being treated to something...

to answer teh question its reached its peak potential already i feel. though there could be cause for future numbers to rise im sure :)
cough cough not hinting awesomeness coming sometime soon cough cough.

what can be done? money invested in advertising. im very happy with the admission rate. before there used to be huge backlogs of users on the waiting on team lists. its much imrpoved (cheers staff)
welcome messages with directoins on what to do. automated ofcourse.
i have no problem making a tutorial video for newcomers. its the main problem is too much to do, you just want to get an idea on a few things and do em, get down to having games. simple.

the community here is great, but newcomers lack a willingness to get involved, because its too much to take in. once they get a basic understanding from a welcome message or something else i think it would sort a lot. get the basics right, then get numbers to join, at that point i think numbers will increase.

as for why it dies? well its a game where there is one winner. you are either playing catchup or winning. the supporter moon system messed with a lot i think. it made the game more fair, but i reckon its around since that update or somewhat soon after that people left.

@ Schepel
"If little things like that do, they would have left anyway"

But they have left. You see the user number dropping and you think they haven't left?

once they get a basic understanding from a welcome message or something else i think it would sort a lot.

New managers do get an automated welcome message send to their SK mail with the basics explained when their registration is accepted by the admin (if I'm right, but it could be they get this message immediately after accepting the conformation link), but still the SK mail with the basics is to much info at ones. And also the layout isn't great at all. Maybe if I have some time soon I will give it a try to make it more understandable for new managers and shorter, but even then I still need to convince others that it would be better to use a different text as the current one.

I also wrote something to show the basics of Sokker the easy way, but info like this is not allowed to be automatically send to new managers as it's to much pushing them into a direction (I think the right direction, but unfortunately it's not allowed ...): How to get started with Sokker, explained in only 6 steps. (top page 3).

But they have left.

Obviously. All I'm saying is this: they would have left anyway.

For a game of its age it isn't as polished as it should be, you only have to watch a few mins of a game and see the way defenders hoof it out. I heard a couple of years ago that Greg got offered $10k for the game but laughed in their faces, no idea if it was true but with the lack of developement I wish someone else did own it. At the end of the day if the devs cant be arsed to improve the game regularly no amount of advertising will help them.

Game is easily worth more than 10k, ballpark the game must turn over at least €5000 a month.

"if they wanted more money he would invest more time in this game and show continuing improvements"

I guess devs were tired of working for almost-free...
