Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2012-01-25 01:59:36
"if they wanted more money he would invest more time in this game and show continuing improvements"

I guess devs were tired of working for almost-free...

Sure there haven't been a bunch of improvements (but as rumors have said, waiting will be worth it in my opinion), but I think there is a bigger reason this game is dying.

It's simply not setup for the next generation of people. Kids these days want instant action whether it's playing COD on their xbox or playing some dumb app on their iphone. The fact that you only play 2 games a week and that players take a month or two to pop in a single skill is just too long of time for people now.

I've tried to get some friends into this game but they just get so bored because they don't get immediate gratification and have to actually wait a couple years before they can consider getting into top leagues and stuff.

idk, just my 2 cents (And Dio's)

that players take a month or two to pop in a single skill

Only with a worthless talent of +10 maybe ;P

err ... one or two months is quite common. one month is 4 weeks, ok so the superdudes do it in less but it's quite normal for pops above solid and i've 3 23-year olds on a schedule of 9 weeks for their next pace pop to brilliant or magical so that really is 2 months or above ...
anyway not everyone can afford topcoaches and toptalent players. you certainly don't start out with them.

For a game of its age it isn't as polished as it should be

True.

you only have to watch a few mins of a game and see the way defenders hoof it out

Fun fact: same is true on a professional level of real life football. Another fun fact: most players have the skills which equate with an amateur player of a low level. Defs with low stats on tech, PM and passing will act accordingly.

At the end of the day if the devs cant be arsed to improve the game regularly no amount of advertising will help them.

Not true. However, the game doesn't have hundreds of devs working 24/7. In fact, there are just two or three of them - all of whom seem to have a regular job as well. Most of the income is spent on keeping the game in the air.

From what I can gather, rather than 2-3 it is actually 1.

it's 2 :)

Yes, 4 weeks is not that strange, and many players will pop 1 level in those 4 weeks. But 2 month is a lot for a single skill pop, specially for new managers as they don't have high skills yet, like outstanding, incredible or brilliant. They are training players with good, solide and very good skills at the most.

anyway not everyone can afford topcoaches and toptalent players. you certainly don't start out with them.

Top coaches aren't needed for these skill pops in 4 weeks or less, as long as the head coach has unearthly for the skill they are training. And if new managers start with stamina the first few weeks they get a lot of skill pops.

Besides, if new managers want action immediately, they can use this start up guide that I made: How to get started with Sokker, explained in only 6 steps. Using this guide they can do a lot of things right away :)

On topic; yeah, it's a game for patient people.

This same patience I didn't have when I started with Hattrick. But Sokker has the tactical bonus, which I just love.
As to what the American above said, 30 dollars a year isn't worth it anymore for him as he wants improvements for his money.
That's his opinion & right of course.

I sometimes compare this sort of thing with going to the movies ($10-$15 per night) and other entertainment. Per hour played this must be one of my cheapest forms of entertainment, so I'm still happy to pay.
I applaud improvement, but also not all changes are improvements.

And about the game-play; yes, starters will get players on amateur level and they will suck. Still I would prefer a little more realism in HOW they suck ;-)
If given enough time, even the worst amateur can pass a ball roughly in the right direction. The bigger problem is with the speed of passing. Pass too slow; probably intercepted by quicker opponent. Pass too fast; either it goes by the receiver or receiver is unable to control it.
I hate that defenders just kick balls out when there is no pressure on them at all.
Such little things I would like to see improved for the starting managers. At the level I'm on after 4-5 years, the game is already a lot more realistic, but I think that could be an area to improve the game where the most affected managers will be the beginners.

"I sometimes compare this sort of thing with going to the movies ($10-$15 per night) and other entertainment."

that´s what i say... go tonight with your friends and have a coupple of beers... 6 euros. Same you need to pay to have a two months plus.

Actually I guess many users use to waste much more than 6 euros in beer on fridays :P
2012-01-27 18:40:30
maybe beer is necessary to survive while sokker is not :p
2012-01-27 19:12:07
this time I have to say you are so fucking right :P
2012-01-27 23:07:35
well...when you buy beer, you get what you really want, don't you? :)

and yeah, beer+vodka every 2nd weekend is a necessity :P
