Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2009-10-31 13:33:25
If the 'kk' in sokker was changed to 'cc, this would be the differnce in google search results

Red line is searches for Soccer Manager, Blue line is Sokker Manager

it should be fairly easy to win the league in league 5. If you can't win there, you wouldn't win in 6 either.

I've coached around 10 people in their first months in this game and nearly all of them just failed for the same reason. No matter how obvious it seems for the rest of us, they bought the crap of the crap on the market: if you spend your money on good trainees, you'll be fine. I think this is the biggest problem: beginning users that buy crap players for too much money. And either they end up with an overpayed mono-striker who is at the end of his carreer, or 3 19yo so-called trainees who would only be semi-decent if they were 17.
And then they stay stuck in whatever league they started in.

I try to explain this to my mentees, but to very little avail.

what are the exact volumes?
2009-10-31 13:36:40
That's not the problem of Sokker, that's them being unable to manage.

problem of this game is that it is a neccesary skill, unlike HT, where you can buy 19yo goods and after a year still have sellable incredible players.
If sk wants to be succesful, it should be able to deal with this gap.

Either a default general training that trains general twice as fast, so new users don't ruin their team in the first 3 months before they ask for a mentor.
Second, an automated help system via mailbox like you have in practically every game that has a complexity above that of ogame. And I think ogame now has one too.
Third, and this is completely subject to taste, sleeker graphics and/or pictures of naked polish women in our advertisement.

btw, do mods have the numbers on the forumposts?
Because I think this game maybe has the most active forums of any browsergame.

Why on earth is Soker's complexity 'the problem'? You tend to assume that all SK users have an HT background and think like monkeys. Our main competitive advantage is the complexity and diversification of the game. It makes the game more interesting to a certain amount of people (the target group). Within this choice, you automatically deny other target groups (people that want to have a great team without doing anything for it). Of course this leads to a lot of people who think that the game will be easy to quit or screw up. Still, if you invest a little bit of time trying to understand the game (---> THIS is the point we should want to make better!) you'll be fine.

The complexity is not the problem, it's a cause.

Why?
Because I lost 10 mentees for that reason alone.

you can either deal with reality or go down because of it.

yes, you did. Not a big deal. Have you even read what I've written here? :) Maybe we/they don't want 'free wheelers' in this game.
2009-10-31 15:11:25
you can convert those freewheelers to decent users and you can use their numbers to attract more (decent) users. A game doesn't grow by being elitist.

I found sokker means "soccer" in Afrikaans. In case you dont know what Afrikaans is, here you go:
Afrikaans is an Indo-European language derived from Dutch and thus classified as Low Franconian West Germanic. It is mainly spoken in South Africa and Namibia, with smaller numbers of speakers living in Botswana, Angola, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Zambia, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Argentina.
Total speakers est. 6.45 million (first language)
6.75 million (second or third language)
12 to 16 million (basic language knowledge)

afrikan is the coolest language in the world, hands down :)

Oh and I give this thread 1 hour before it's shutdown, because that's the way this game works.

i think you were a mod long time ago right??
2009-11-01 15:26:51
No.
2009-11-01 20:29:50
I voted yes.. The only reason I'm still playing is because I've been around for too long.. and I've won too much.. It would be a pity to delete my team.. So I keep logging in to do the most basic of things..
I'm still active but I lost the enthousiasm I once had.. and seeing how this game evolves.. I doubt that it will ever come back..
2009-11-01 20:34:25
it will come back when you buy decent strikers :p
