Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2012-02-12 16:20:46
the solution is greg, he must do something.

He does, we have new improvements, it only often takes to long before they are introduced. Many already suggested to ask for help if it's to much work for the small group if DEVs, but that is his call.

And maybe Sokker isn't the game that will ever have a couple of hundred thousand managers, I don't know. But at the moment every new managers is 1 more :)

And we aren't greg, we can only do what we can and that is mainly promotion. Without that we know for sure many won't get to know Sokker at all.

I'm not moaning, I'm just being realistic..

It's good that you still have the energy to try and promote sokker but why still bother? Sokker will never get a lot of users because the first thing you see is the layout.. and the layout is crap.. It doesn't matter that sokker has more options, is more realistic, has a better tactics-editor, has 2d games, youthschool, etc.. because you have to play the game for some time to really appreciate this.

If you want to attract new users.. the 1st impression is what counts and that's where sokker fails imo.

Sokker is a great game but imo it's just too ugly to get really big like for example HT.. and that's not the only reason by the way.. just 1 of the more obvious.

If the owner of the game actually does nothing for me, why i should do something for him? Forgive me, but i'm not "Mother Teresa of Calcutta"... Sokker is not my life, if he dies? I will not cry...

I think both of you have a good point:

- if more users know sokker, then more chances we have to find one like you or me, that is, one who is looking for this kind of game. So, he will stay.

- if sokker layout looks better, many users will give it the chance.

Obvisuly sokker is not your life... it´s nobody´s life. But it´s a place where we like to spend some of our time, and the best way to make it works better everyday is trying to cooperate to each other.

greg and the other devs are working on this since many years now. Last years they didn´t give you as much as you expected, well... maybe they didn´t get as much as they expected neither.

have you asked yourself how many plus users are there in this game?

nobody works for free...

So what is the solution to let more people know about Sokker? Promotion is the only way.

It's about keeping more of them, not informing more of them.

I think it's a vicious circle :))
to keep more of them, you have to inform them :P
2012-02-12 18:41:45
erm...no?

It's about keeping a higher percentage of new users than now...

It's about both, of course. We can't do anything about the development of SK, but we can do a lot about promoting SK.

@ everyone: stop being such old ladies. If someone has got the drive to do something, support the man for crying out loud. Whining over how it's never going to work, how it's too late and so on and so forth certainly is NOT going to help.

I do agree with you about the looks and layout, and greg also knows what I think of this ;) My opinion is that greg made a great game that has a lot more potential as the total managers at the moment, but his taste for what is 'good looking' isn't really what a lot of people think of it. The faces are a good example of it, but also the missing catchy frontpage (with some nice flash features). If you look at all these soccer manager games, only Sokker is missing such a frontpage (not all look good, but at least they have one) :P voetbalmanager.startze.nl

But there is a solution for the looks and even the layout of Sokker as there is always a solution. Someone can do something about the looks and layout if he/she knows CSS and can make the best looking skin ever made, and this skin can then be shown to greg and maybe even be added to the default skins if he also likes it that much ;) (Best is to use the standard Sokker colors for this skin, so green, orange and cream as these colors are the identity of Sokker.)

But ofcourse someone must be willing to invest free time in this, and that can be a problem as most rather love to complain about Sokker but don't want to invest any time to really do something about it (I don't mean this too you, but too all who feel/know this is addressed to).

And indeed, you never get a second chance to make a first impression :)

there was one amazing skin made by a Romania user if I remember correctly, it was blue-black...something connected with champions league

anyway...CSS will always be limited in one way or another...and hiring a pro to do the layout isn't that expensive...

For me, layout is not so important. HT layout is not good either.
What important for me is, the automatic tutorial which appear like small windows in every page the newbie open . This can make newbie not confuse for what to do as the first time join, instead reading mail.

New managers also get a tutorial send to them when their registration is accepted. But I think it's not really a good tutorial and doesn't really help new managers to understand Sokker in an easy way.

There should be a video tutorial, would change a lot.

Nice all those thing to get people here to play Sokker, but that is not the problem....
In the past we did have a lot of managers, without all those things.
Problem is the way Sokker is now..., bad communication, that is it.
So people are leaving because they have waited long enough for this to change, now they know it will never change.
