Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2009-11-02 16:40:46
Shouldn't he be informed of what the managers think of the game?

Don`t think he already knows that?

Even mods complain every now and then and we have a thread 21 pages long about fan mood complaints, where Greg has almost "satisfied" everyone of them with good explanations, why mood is that low etc..

Want to share?

No need for that. Won´t change nothing.
2009-11-02 16:52:13
Well, if everyone that saw Greg's explanations was satisfied, wouldn't it be interesting for the non-Mods see them as well?

I am there since 2005 and I dont think that is Sokker dying. Since 2005 there is disillusion with work of developers. I would be more scared if todays would something change. I think that Sokker is great game and concept. I should be dissatisfied with frequency and quality of improvements but I have to admit that all changes were for better. And thats not completely common in other online games:)
What we elders have to deal with is stereothype. But imho thats problem of every game and I would say that even of every activity. I dont think that any improvement should change it until it would change whole concept. And how I said, I consider that concept as very good, reason why is Sokker better than other online managers. So why there is dissatisfaction in community when formally there is realy not reason?

I think that there should be much more discussion between staff and users. And not only between them. Also in staff are people somewhat separated as in some military hierarchy. Admins are there realy only for administration and moderators for moderating. The people who came to staff to change things and believed that in that way they should help improve game are many times dissatisfied. More free-heartedness and communication would make much more creative atmosphere. I think that there are some people who would help free if they would be sure that it will improve game. I think that if staff would let know on what they are working and discussed it with users it would give people more interest. Todays form "book of requests and complaints" is not enough, users need some feed-back.

Yes, I'd say I pretty much agree with your position! The game is fine as it is, the community work could be easily improved!

Yes, because.. 52.5% (152)
No, because.. 47.5% (139)

Ignoring those voyeurs

What exactly do other management games have that Sokker is lacking? I've tried a lot of them and haven't found much that impressed me tbh.
The one very good suggestion that shouldn't get diluted in the midst of this whining is a name change. A lot of the obvious names are already taken but I'm sure a better one than sokker could be found.

I voted YES.Becuz new ideas is ignored and no innovation.

Feedback and a general back and forth between users and devs
A professional design, name and manner
A sense of progress
More users

I agree with you about other games, frankly they're all boring and I've no plans on joining any more but at least they're professional in the way they're run. That's something I definitely can't say about this game, which is run as a side project by people who haven't the time to improve it, and assisted by some high and mighty people who clearly resent "normal" users for bothering them about doing their job properly. Seriously, nothing in this game has annoyed me more than trying to talk to them.

certain groups of people always expect development development development.

Lets face it - if HT didnt bring in those stupid cartoon layouts i would still be playing over there.

Sometimes development isnt the best option.

In my opinion the main difference between sokker and any other online manager is the real live match engine. So I dont think sokker will die as long as it has the monopoly in that. But what happens when an other game comes with this feature?
2009-11-03 11:34:25
Sokker is not the only one with match engine...managerzone, manager-mania have even better match engines...and there will be more and more such games.
2009-11-03 11:36:53
Hehe who tell you that no have 2d real life feature in other game ?

As far as i know there is at least 1 other online game that has the 3D match engine named Manager zone, but this game is still without success till now, i played this game for more than 5 seasons now but like i said here before in other thread that i prefere 2D match engine of sokker than the 3D of manager zone, really that the graficis are better than the one we are using but in sokker we have other things that we don't find them in other online games.

small eg: Manager zone you can only buy 5 forign players and use only 3 of them in a match heheh that for me is very annoying that you can have the money and don't have where you spend them

another eg: the stadium , i build the stadium and spend lot of money in there but the profit from ticket are always the same so why do i build the stadium heheh to spend money without turn over

BTW :I like sokker as it is , but if there are some changes i think that it would be better .

eg : Name ??? = maybe other fans of football maneging find it more easy to find this intresting game and more other things that i know that in greg's & (Dev's)minds there are for the future

They still have the time advantage: making a good ME is hard, very hard. Sokker has been polishing its ME for years, and the difference is remarkable (btw, there are other online managers with live animated matches: comapred to sokker, those live matches suck. Big time :P). Still, new game may come and learn from Sokker experience with MEs, saving time, but one thing is to understand the features you need in a good ME and a different thing is to know how to code it and make it run smoothly.
Then again, just as Sokke rdid, someone could come up with a "good enough" ME and continue to develop from there. Constant improvement of Sokker's ME is the way to stay competitive, imho.

@Vilpu: I'm not eager to believe devs aren't doing anything, I know they tend to work in the shadows for months and then surprise us :P But you must admit that things don't exist until people kow about them. So, even if I believe that something is being done, I can't blame other users for claiming that nothing is, since we don't really have any news whatsoever. It's practically a amtter of faith :P
Zero information works when innovations are frequent: who cares about work in progress when the full stuff is available every 3 months. But when it takes longer, then you may create this feeling of being stucked (I know: once you say you're working on something, users will start complaining about delays, etc, you just can't make them happy, not all of them at least :P).
I'm also aware o the "HT argument": HT haven't done anything relevant more or lesss since it was created, and it still is very succesful, fair enough. But the question is whether you are competing with HT to capture users who are happy with never-changing environments, or whether you are actually addressing a market niche of people already disappointed (or likely to be if they ever join) with HT, a more "dynamic" (?) type of users (at least that kind of user is the bulk of Sokker Argentina :P).
