Subject: Is Sokker dying?

2009-11-03 11:46:30
They still have the time advantage: making a good ME is hard, very hard. Sokker has been polishing its ME for years, and the difference is remarkable (btw, there are other online managers with live animated matches: comapred to sokker, those live matches suck. Big time :P). Still, new game may come and learn from Sokker experience with MEs, saving time, but one thing is to understand the features you need in a good ME and a different thing is to know how to code it and make it run smoothly.
Then again, just as Sokke rdid, someone could come up with a "good enough" ME and continue to develop from there. Constant improvement of Sokker's ME is the way to stay competitive, imho.

@Vilpu: I'm not eager to believe devs aren't doing anything, I know they tend to work in the shadows for months and then surprise us :P But you must admit that things don't exist until people kow about them. So, even if I believe that something is being done, I can't blame other users for claiming that nothing is, since we don't really have any news whatsoever. It's practically a amtter of faith :P
Zero information works when innovations are frequent: who cares about work in progress when the full stuff is available every 3 months. But when it takes longer, then you may create this feeling of being stucked (I know: once you say you're working on something, users will start complaining about delays, etc, you just can't make them happy, not all of them at least :P).
I'm also aware o the "HT argument": HT haven't done anything relevant more or lesss since it was created, and it still is very succesful, fair enough. But the question is whether you are competing with HT to capture users who are happy with never-changing environments, or whether you are actually addressing a market niche of people already disappointed (or likely to be if they ever join) with HT, a more "dynamic" (?) type of users (at least that kind of user is the bulk of Sokker Argentina :P).

Even mods complain every now and then and we have a thread 21 pages long about fan mood complaints, where Greg has almost "satisfied" everyone of them with good explanations, why mood is that low etc..

We now know why he thinks the supportersmood systems workes perfect as well ;)

Contrary to what most ppl say here, I don't hink this game is dying because of poor ME or communication issues with the devs. Most ppl who give up, never complained about either of this.

I think mass-drainage of users in Belgium has more to do with the look of the site, and the big investment this game takes in time and thought. A better look of the site, a bigger stress on the community of the site and giving it a face - literally(also in advertising), and a easy how-to manual by mail in the first weeks would make more users stick.

What is the demography of this game? Learn to play that market. Because it is, in my view, a marketing issue, not a game issue.

It's impossible to please everyone. So there will always be people complaining or stating a game is dying.

The number of people leaving in Belgium is a direct consequence of how they got 'recruited' in the first place.

By the way, there is a lot of work going on regarding advertisement.

I think sokker is dying...

1.- Forums aren't active that they used to be a long time ago. At least in my country, there was a time that the forums where very active, now they are a lil' bit boring...

2.- Probably people is geting bored about no improvements in sokker. The last novel and striking improvement was the match viewer. After that, sokker hasn't made any interesting improvement. I think this is the most important point, because interesting and funny improvements make people stay more time in sokker, and make more people plays sokker and become more active players...

I hope devs read all this comments, so they can realized what sokker needs in a certain future.

People who leave are for sure not the reason to say the game is dying, becasue total amount of users keeps on growing, with cycles, but growing. So, if it is about users, it is not dying at all.

The way I see it, the only reason to claim such a a thing (which I don't :P) is that users who stay are not having the same fun as before, and are becoming kind of ghosts. That's not because of looks or tutorials - it was much worse when we got here. Scared new users were always there, and the game grew despite that (and, I repeat, even when it was much less newbie-friendly), and still grows. The thing is that some active community members became less active or quitted becasue they got bored. I don't want to see a game with 500 users and 200 posters become a game with 5000 users and 5 posters, and that's what worries me. I'm not concerned about the game being big or being small, I just want it to remain buoyant and exciting.

I's say that name 'Sokker' is pretty unique and cool.
2009-11-03 18:30:41
..and I was referring to ME from 2005 and 2006. That one is long forgotten.
2009-11-03 19:06:55
just keep re-interpretating the situation until it isn't a problem any more. That's another way of fixing it:p

funny ...
'sokker is dead'

yet
- posters read all forums and answer this poll
- posters are still playing it
basically, you do all you can do with an online game

so how can it be dead then?

In my opinion Sokker is not dying...far from it

No, we are not the only manager game with a match viewer, I know that Manager Zone has a 3D viewer with nice graphics but the ME in that game is so retarded it's not even funny. Also the other aspects of that game (and other games I have tried) are retarded beyond belief.

The system we got here is superb.....

Training system...brilliant
Juniors system....brilliant
Transfer market...brilliant
Hidden talent of juniors....brilliant
etc etc..........

The only thing we are missing in my opinion( and many others') is some form of an international cup. This game needs it badly...I am sure it would pump new blood and excitment into many users and especially those that have won their country's top league and/or cup 10 times or more.

The supporters mood system is a bit harsh, but it is a step in the right direction as it gives more opportunity to the new users, which was, I hope, the intent of devs.

We, the users of this game, and the devs need to do a better job in marketing and mentoring new users because this is the greatest manager game on the internet...hands down......

Amen

Also, the users that keep bitching and complaining all the time should do us all a big favour and quit this great game!!
