Subject: [news] Junior Teams

A claim that you tested it is not good enough. If you have adequate raw data, post it for some proper statistical analysis. Also a sample size of 2 teams in holland is not good enough, I don't see how you can pick just two and then extrapolate fom there, it shows a lack of rigour in the analysis.

raw data will post here at the end of the investigation (end of this season) And it are 3 teams, not 2.... but with that i will have around 1000 datapoints. With that amount of datapoints it is perfectly fine to claim a result (range of 2 around real total skill (+1, -1)) with a faultrange of 5%.

Yes i know 3 teams is not much, but it is no extrapolation of teams, or just one week data. Based on that i can extrapolate on the data i have.

For exaple i have data of 52 players on thursday before new system and thuesday when the new system arived. We know the real skill was the same on those 2 days. We also know that the youthcoach worked that thuesday for the first time, and at the max of his faultrange, because no matches were played.

of those 52 players, 21 stayed at their original level, 26 raised or lowered with 1 level, 5 raised or lowered 2 or more levels. 52 is not much, you can not make a reay good conclusion out of that, but it is not realy thinkable either that this data is so corrupted that it is in fact 50% of all players will have a difference of 2 to real total skill.

We use also data of players with a known talent of the old system,

But you only say i am wrong, you bring in no evidence at all, only your feeling it is rubbish.

3 teams is no a 'couple'. 'Couple' means two.

I'll discuss the 'datapoints' when I see them.

it is not realy thinkable either that this data is so corrupted that it is in fact 50% of all players will have a difference of 2 to real total skill.

Don't exaggerate, nobody said anything like that. HOWEVER it is not enough to just use a sample of 52 players and assume that the deviation from the true skill is representative of that of the game as a whole.

Also, using your data of the 52 players, it shows that 31 out of 52 players had incorrectly reported skill levels. If that isn't bad, I don't know what is.

No it is not bad, it is just another way as before. Ok, you do not like it, too bad. But do not extrapolate it to other users ;) (just kidding)

Alright fine, let's leave it at that, I'm going out to play some real football now anyway :)

good luck :)

we were never supposed to know talent, it is a hidden skill and the game is far more interesting if it is not known, it means that there can be suprises and mistakes and that is really good for the newer teams, now they can 'strike it rich' so to speak

and I never said that you could figure out the exact skills, but you can see how fast they run compared to others, you can see if they always misplay the ball or are reliable, you can see the hardness and accuracy of the shot, etc, this gives you an idea of what kind of players are going to come out of your youth school

for example I know already that my best youth is coming out in three weeks, he will be kind of slow, so I am doing other training now that I might have held out on because I know that I will want to train pace once he gets out. My other good youth that comes out at the end of the season is already the fastest player I have seen on my team or my opponents, so it is safe to conclude that he will come out at excellent pace, they are the same age, so hopefully I can get them at about the same pace for the end of the year

Growing my own youth players is a big part of the game for me

lol, yeah, I looked at your team... :)

now look at mine, I have youth school graduates at all positions in my starting team, most have reached 1 250 000 $. I have created NT starters at all positions as well, my team is the poster child for developing your own players, and I love this system

what you want is to be able to sell players for really high values because you can prove their talent and you don't like that this is going to end and that players will be sold on just skills and age

but you should be happy, because the way things were you had no chance to land a player with a proven 3.25 talent on the transfer list, now you have more of a chance to get lucky and buy talented players for less money

how can that not be a good thing?

this is my current youth:

sorry it is in dutch but i think it isn't hard to understand what i am doing. :)

with this sheet i made i automate some things. I see directly what age the players will be, what week they will pulled. A small statisticformula helps me determinate the talent (the more data the better it wil determinate :) )
I use fixed numbers for what total skill a player must have on what age. Based on current skill and talent it shows me if a player should stay or go. (current skill and talent are manual number, the sheet only advise me these numbers, at the end i decide what i realy think it is :) )

A sheet like this is not so hard to make. And it will give realy an effort for new youthsystem.

from the rules:

If a junior team gives walkover two weeks in a row, it will be removed from the junior league.

that feature is bugged, my opponent had wo in the first 2 weeks and guess what? he is still in.

not that i want him out, i'm just saying the rules don't apply. i wonder how many other rules don't apply?
2010-01-09 13:42:57
because it's only been introduced last week? ;)
2010-01-09 13:43:20
impressive!
2010-01-09 13:44:03
no, that team has been in the league from the beginning, look at my matches.
2010-01-09 13:48:35
but the WO rule isn't :)
2010-01-09 13:53:37
nice, they are adding rules and keeping it quiet?! what's the logic behind this? transparency is obviousely not a priority here :(

what other rules are out there that nobody was told about?
2010-01-09 14:25:45
Are you a bit dumb or what? Langhe is saying that the new rule was added after week 2 and that was communicated to the community. Thus from then on people will be removed after 2 WO's.

And please stop with your negative attitute, you should be happy that he was not removed, else you wouldn't have had any opponent left.
2010-01-09 14:50:38
i suggest you use this language with your buddies and stop addressing to me, i won't sink to your level.

i don't see any news about that rule on the news section, therefore was not communicated. adding it to the rules does not mean it was communicated. what is everybody supposed to do, read the rules before every match to find out if anything has changed?!

and about me being happy he was not removed: i would be happy to see him removed, because then the sistem the devs put in place will be proven faulty. of course, maybe that could also mean the end of the season, and a new season would start, in a higher league. and since there are only 2 teams, both would probably be promoted. and then another 2 wo would bring both of us in the first league, to be the first 2 teams in the game to play in the first leaugue. that would be funny :))

almost worth trying.
