Subject: The Best Manager In Sokker

2010-10-25 23:08:38
But how do you expect to get a fair assessment for each team....
2010-10-25 23:14:15
Its tricky as anyone writing a summary could create a bias towards one team over another.

As a minimum the clubs history could be listed in a condensed form, and if possible any NT history would also be useful. This may only be possible in the later rounds, with 64 managers thats a lot of work to compile.

For now a link to each club would be a good starting point, its currently an effort to look up clubs to compare their relative achievements and much easier to just make a snap judgment.

In this way we can choose the best manager by simply adding up their accomplishments and comparing.

I think that there is no sense in making descriptions of users, but it would be much better if everone was expected to post the way Vilpu did.

As a sidenote, best manager can have different meanings for each user, it does not have to be connected solely with the number of trophies...for example someone might've done a great job with a weak NT etc.

I can definitely provide a link. Writing reports causes a problem of bias but I'd be very happy to see more people following Vilpu and making their own arguments, you can't force it though
Giving details of trophies won is an issue because of differing quality of leagues and users like Hells. In the end it is a popularity contest of sorts, I deliberately never specified what I meant by "Best" because I wanted people to make their own mind up on what's most important to them; tactics, ability to pick players, trading, youths and so on.
2010-10-25 23:25:01
True, maybe that is the best way. Its better for each individual user to put in a bit of effort when they vote, by writing a comment they are showing the basis on which they made the decision at least.

I still doubt you'll be able to compare teams effectively though...let's say you have to compare a Swedish team and an Icelandic team (completely random example). The Icelandic team has more titles than the Swedish one but Iceland has less teams so Swedish titles are worth more....then again the Icelandic team was founded in 2006 and had a harder time progressing than the Swedish team that was founded in 2005. Now the Swedish teams has much higher ratings so it should have the edge..but a closer look reveals that the Icelandic team has a super young team whereas the Swedish team relied on old players to boost its stats.
Who do you pick in that scenario? :)

Probably the team that has posted more often in this forum....
2010-10-25 23:29:38
Personally I judge on formations, results, competition and if possibly national team experience if available.

Sure, but at least you are doing some research in that case, it would be an informed decision.

When I was comparing Anaconda to Jurkasz it seemed clear to me that there shouldn't be much of a competition, at least as long as your judging the best manager, rather than most active on the forums.

I mean Anaconda's greatest achievement was to reach 7th place in the countries top division, and to manage Romania U-21's to a disappointing finish (I forget which stage he was knocked out, but it was too early given the standard of players). Admittedly, recent results with Israel have been strong, but they have largely been friendly games and just to boost ranking points.

Jurkasz has managed to win both the Hungarian league & cup, and he also has a far stronger NT record reaching the world cup final with Estonia (as Vilpu pointed out).

Of course everyone has an opinion, and Anaconda is a better known manager. However, it felt like people were voting almost entirely on popularity and not with real knowledge of the managers.

Difficult to say what you understand under Best manager. It's for every manager different.
Best trader was pabloo7,but he was banned last season, best trainer is someone else probably, best result-manager is probably uamini for me because he became the best sokker team in a relatively short period.
Thing is that mostly the votes go to the managers who are longer in the game then others while in fact they are just good managers who stayed a long time. Sokker isn't that difficult. I you train for a long time and sell from time to time you will become better and better.
Best manager for me is the one who can combine for a long time training and results and can earn a lot of money while he keeps promoting in a short period. That guy that I am searching is most likely not even in the list.

So out of interest, who do you think is the best manager?

Poll closes in 4 minutes.

I made same mistake when I put anaconda cause I sned few sk-mails to him, but when I see Jurkast achievement I see that he should be in top 10 manager at the end

AAAlin - he make that even faster

Voting Closed

Results will be up soon after the film I'm watching finishes. Then I'll get to work on the next draw.
A question. Do we do Round 2 all in one or split it into 2 parts? It's twice the size of this round. Also, any other ideas?
2010-10-26 00:11:53
indeed... It proves that it is very difficult to know all the histories... Maybe the best manager has only done 4 seasons in the game... Difficult to say... To win the Champions Cup + their national league in that short time you have to have a good trainingplan and a good sellingplan + good tactics, so for me that would be the best two options...
2010-10-26 00:12:50
Yup, that was highly impressive....I still don't know how he won it that year, his team wasn't all that good....

I'll get kicked out of this competition anyway the day people start looking at my last league game :)
2010-10-26 00:16:08
I would split it up. Will give the users a possibility to check each contestant better.
