I think we only need to pay for the lawn once, and it's condition get worse during a match, and improves when you don't play.

that is correct, and you can boost it with maintenance. But without that it will recover too.
pitch condition went from 44% to 47% and maintenance again dropped by 5%
so far that speaks for the theory, that maintenance is paid once and helps recovering the pitch for 20 (or 10) days untill you must buy it again. Is anyone already collecting more data?
