I think the result Bulgaria-Italia was a fair one. I would advise to see the match instead of "judging by statistics" to those who could pretend to make themselves an oinion 'the easy way'.

I don't know what Italia was supposedly playing to. 2 ATTs without any support other than long passes from its own field (where the other 9 players were most of the time), and placed back so the options to outwit the DEFs were very low (if any at all). So, without anybody to play with., the only option they had were shoots from afar (these are which mostly made the 'statistics'). And how may shots from out the big area towards a well placed keeper end in goal in RL? Similar to this match, that number tends to zero.

There were some chances in the little area? Of course, but there is the GK skill (and Italia's blocked a penalty, too...), AND the skill of the coach placing DEFs there. Bulgarian DEFs placement there was superb, and though Italia could have scored one (or maybe two), its all with counts, not that 'an ATT should he alone be capable to score automatically and statistically'.

On the other hand, Bulgaria planned a quite defensive match, but commited players to PLAY as midfielders. Though playing most of the time in its field, it was funny to see how they played the ball and passed themselves *around* some casual Italian player who was there, without any serious support from his comrades to play for area control. These only midfielders (as Italia had nobody resembling to be one into play) SUPPORTED the attack, were THERE to give precise (and successful!) passes to his lone ATT, and indeed one was THERE to cut the pass, to pass himself to his ATT well (that's the work of a MID), and so to engineer the second goal.

The Bulgarian ATT, though alone and strongly covered, was THERE, in the precise possition in which he could outrun, without falling into offside or giving his oponents time to react, and have some clear option at any moment, and it was SOPPORTED by MIDs who could create these options (as it happened).

In the end, the victory of Bulgaria I think it is well deserved, and its merit is for its coach, which (imho) achieved a superb work managing his tactic and resources. On the other hand, the same managing of Italian assets and tactic (which, imho, was very, very bad) had its part in it. His coach should have prevented a contingency as loosing and/or the tactic not working, and the same he changed the tactic putting a winger in the 74' (too late for anything to change), he could have done it sooner.

Of course, it is easy to make the new match engine the scapegoat. But, upon seeing the match, I think it was OK, and the result show what should be shown, considering the play, and not a 'statisticly-for-number-of-shoots' won victory.

I saw first 10 minutes of your game, really boring...

def has ball - long pass to striker, def takes ball from him - long pass to striker, def tackles him, passes to mid, mid passes back to def, def passes to striker etc.

England in '70...

doesn't matter, I'm not talking about the apropriatness of tactic, but about the engine and whether the game was fascinating or not

"before changes"... take a look that there are different tactics and players. You should take that also into account.
I know your frustration, just like my match against Turkey...

for everybody that is complaining about the victory of Bulgaria and Switzerland. Watch the matches and count the 1:1 situations. Then you will be quiet i think. 1:1 situations are most effectiv at the moment...matchengine is always changing and today most of the goals were made in 1:1 situations!

You can forget the statistics, you gotta watch the matches. Italy was dominating, yes and they could have scored some goals, but Bulgaria had 1:1 situations. The defense of Bulgaria was placed well in the situation against the italian strikers, they shot from distance or had headers, which doesn't work or at least there are few goals resulting.

Switzerland had better chances this is obvious AND the strikers were well placed. Polska had 4 defenders and Switzerland played with 3 attackers, this was too much for the polish defense. It is a great victory, it is not a lot about luck in that game in my opinion.

But there is a high random factor, this is clear.
