Sad thing is, it seems he was an active user, login in (almost) every day before he bankrupted, probably he wasn't even aware that he is going to lose his club

That isn't good, i do feel for him and the way bankruptcy is dealt with. But what becomes of bankrupt clubs then? When should they become bots, and will their players disappear?

Is it manually triggered or automatically.

Team is bankrupted -> User can't log in -> Team gets deleted after 60 days of inactivity (if the club exists for less than 1 year) or 90 days (>1 year), unless it has a PLUS - then it's 60/90 days after the PLUS ends.

Players won't disappear.

Yup, it’s very harsh. I was once close to going bankrupt, listed a player while in the red and someone tried to buy him and planned not to bring him in (and I wouldn’t be able to send him off if I got logged out since it was already after the bankruptcy deadline).

Would be far better if you just couldn’t spend anything (transfers, recruitment etc.) under 0€ balance, and then after going into negative balance just had unlimited or very long time to sort it out.

It could lead though to buying old very high wage players to promote to higher league with them while losing money every week, so that would also have downsides…

It's nuts the players stay there. Really silly and unfair for teams that actually exist and play to the rules. No rules for bots seems odd.
