Subject: NEWS Sokker- big changes are coming!
You should have read « randoms » as sum of others factors (other than height) - those mentioned by borkos007 for example - and not, randomness. In other words : even if height is implemented, its weight relative to other factors is imperceptible in M.E.
Okay but you still can't draw conclusions from your own 2-season experience :) I would not say imperceptible because many people noticed the height advantage. For example, I have noticed that my long-time 171cm goalie loses aerial duels far more often than other GKs.
Also,, I don't think devs would bother to make one of their very few modifications to match engine if the effect would be negligible.

2 seasons was much enough to draw this conclusion. I don’t care how much height is negligible, others factors or skills are much more important.
As it is currently implemented (according to latest news) without the positive effect of better acceleration for smaller players - it is very one-sidedly advantageous to have large players.
The tactical variability of using tall forwards/defenders for the center and small ones for the wings is completely lost.
And weight is again a variable value, so it is not an argument for choosing a small player.
Or am I overlooking something?

Yes. Having a small (in terms of height) player has only downsides.
So for every position on the field you'd want the highest possible player.

The title in this part is misleading; it should not have been titled Weight” but “BMI.”
Acceleration is a ratio of weight /height (bmi) not height, neither weight only. This is explained in the text immediately following.
As far as I can tell from my “limited testing over two seasons,” BMI (close to ideal) was far more effective than height. While we cannot conclude that tall striker is irrelevant, it was clearly not decisive.
As mentioned earlier, there are many other factors (such as simply positions and timing at a given moment) that make it difficult to consider BMI or height as decisive factors in the game engine.
It's good to confirm that these factors are implemented. But the least we can say is that after years of playing, the game engine hasn't changed at all, and the way these factors are implemented in the game engine is not at all obvious.

Yes, it might be true that the effects are nearly negligible.
However, I am sad that is it implemented that way now. It does not provide any measure to balance the effect of small/tall players for the future, as there is just no positive effect for small players coded.
Linking acceleration to BMI makes poorly sense - even it was trainable (and how should that properly work? via stamina? very challenging ...)

Haven't you noticed that direct, vertical tactics are very common at top level ? ;-)
It's no surprise to see 5 defenders to counter verticality, and only 2 or 3 midfielders for playmaking.
Match engine, is maybe the most successful aspect of Sokker (imo its is)
However, it has never evolved and remains very limited in terms of tactical variability. It's a real shame, because the tactical editor is really what set Sokker apart from other soccer games.

I had the hope back in 2010, that they use the attribute height to significantly differentiate skills for heading and acceleration, in order to add a new tactical dimension in the style of play, maybe even with the option (dropdown menu) to prioritize
a) high balls / crosses, or
b) flat passes / through balls
BMI/wheight might still be a nice feature, if it was just affecting the degree of benefit both in acceleration and heading for small and tall players, respectively.
I. e.,
- small player with bad BMI has no benefit in acceleration, small player with good BMI has better acceleration
- tall player with bad BMI has no benefit in heading, tall player with good BMI has better chance of winning a header

its counter intuitive, irl smaller players have advantage (not BMI, but a lower center of gravity).
But that's how it is, you just have to look at BMI. Small player can very well have a "perfect" BMI (contrary to what The Ripper said).

And make wheight and stamina skill more variable with random dropdowns.
Rename stamina training to general condition and add positive effects on wheight and form, besides stamina.

No doubt about that. Still they suffer disadvantages headings, while tall players with an optimal BMI have both benefits.

...and where did he say that?
of course every player irrespective of height can have a perfect BMI
it doesn't change the fact that in terms of small vs high, small players have ONLY disadvantages (worse heading) and tall players have ONLY advantages (better heading) so on every position in the field when choosing between small and tall player, the only good answer is always tall player (assuming similar BMI)

Yes.
I added "in terms of height" to the word small in my post if it wasn't clear in the first place.
