I think this is important when comparing vs GK

It is good to have tall def and att yes. But I kind see a very big disadvantage when GKs are not as taller as Arts
Couple of seasons ago as NT coach I left a short GK on the bench despite of the better skills. He was just losing all the heads against the tall strikers, specially Europeans.

So, at NT level, Europeans have better chances to be taller or they are equally distributed through all nations?

You really think they added a height parameter based on country of origin? :D

Nah, look at Polish NT. Most are small / medium. Basically nobody 190+, only one goalkeeper. Rest of GKs are much smaller, most under 180.

Height of Top PL ATTs:

182
178
177
172
170
165
161
156

Having higher defending is an advantage. Height is an advantage. But Isn't perfect BMI is an advantage too?
I am agree, but you seems confusing.

Because Bmi is relative to height too, player can be small with perfect bmi or tall with bad bmi. Here is the confusion.
Typically It's not because you have a small player that it will inevitably be less advantageous than any tall one.

That's another story, you can't compete Vs Poland in term of skills. Height or bmi are just small advantages, your are already f* up with all other skills. Only better tactics and luck could help. End of story :-/

Its mathematical : Youth schools produce less good players (than it was), and globally countries loosing users (so youth schools); in the end Poland is unbeatable in term of producing top players, and most countries have difficulty fielding 11 top players in good form.

And as DarkmasteR said, I very much agree with him, because I am a national team coach and my selection of players is very, very limited, but when I play against strong teams (I will also play against Poland in the WC) they have an infinite pool of players. So it is not enough that the gap between the teams is huge, now they also have the option to choose the higher players and get another advantage, which makes the level gaps even bigger.

you realise that nothing change in the game, they just clarified how the game already worked?

and no, Poland doesn't have an infinite pool of players. in fact best Polish central midfielders, defenders and wingers have TERRIBLE BMI but they will still play... if I had to choose by BMI / height I would have to use players with much much worse skills than the best ones

for example:

#1 defender: height: 169 cm, weight: 78.1 kg, BMI: 27.34 xD
#1 midfielder height: 168 cm, weight: 75.7 kg, BMI: 26.82
#1 winger: height: 166 cm, weight: 60.3 kg, BMI: 21.88

all very small, all too chubby or too skinny

it is what it is

all small. skinny blah blah but all would be maldinis in other nt´s, probably you wont share any of them but i am sure there are absolutely top. My defs in Australia are also skinny but 17x3 and 11x3 at best :P

We don't know whether the effect is really looow as you say until we see big data (big enough to balance out all other variables).

The fact you can't just eyeball something, doesn't mean it is not important.

In fact, many were sure that height matters even when it was widely assumed that it was not implemented in the ME. Meanwhile, you're sure that it's almost irrelevant. Maybe you're right, maybe they were right, there's no way to know without data.

One more example - half of our local forum swear that players with higher level of experience play better - for example, GKs with a lot of experience have a higher success rate on saves. The other half we are pretty sure that experience doesn't matter at all for GKs. Obviously, one half is very wrong and a victim of confirmation bias. So personal observations are not of great significance.

Obviously, tall players are more likely to have an advantage than short player. It's a pretty straightforward concept, I I don't see what's got you confused.

Let's say we give 1 point for Height and 1 for BMI:

Tall player: 1 point for height and a 50% chance of 1 point for BMI - 1.5 points on average.
Short player: 0 points for height and a 50% chance of 1 point for BMI - 0.5 points on average.

I can't share any of them because they are not my players.

Yes, they are top, that was my point - their skills are top, but their height / BMI are terrible - still they are better than others, so if I would like to use only players with great BMI / height then I would have to use much weaker players in their place.
2025-10-01 22:22:13

I am asking as I dont know, so you are sure they dont. Ok then. thanks

Is it good for you with bold ? ;-p

Exactly ;-)

So you want big data ?

And who in the world said that tall players will always and inevitably be better than short players? :D You don't quite understand how probabilities work my friend.

In short, tall players are more likely to have an advantage over short players. Its simple as that. I can't simplify it any further, so I hope you're not confused anymore.
