Subject: Match Engine Change

2006-11-01 15:23:42
In the news:
New modifications in match generator will be tested in friendly games.

List of key modifications (these are all subject to change and under discussion):

- If there is no one to play the ball to, a player may pass the ball effectively to themselves by heading it a bit ahead of themselves.
- Fixed a bug with headers - players will now head the ball more often.
- Chesting the ball - Players will now take the ball down on their chest and immediately start playng.
- Improved player decision system relating to when to pass or not.
- Upgraded player shooting decisions (they will be less likely to shoot from sharp angles, but will now shoot from longer distances if possible).
- It will now be possible to dribble past the goalkeeper (success depends on player technique and keeper skill).
- More clever shots when one on one with the keeper (for example, placing the ball using less power).
- Fixed freekick wall.
- A new skill "positioning" will be introduced from next season. For testing all matches will be played with the lowest value of positioning for all players. More information about this skill will be provided later.

Plz post any discussion about this engine change in this thread. I'm excited about the changes, and am impressed that sokker staff got this out so quickly.

Can`t wait my friendly tonight...

This looks great:)
Are you saying that positioning will be a trainable skill?
2006-11-01 15:32:23
You need to buy it, it is not trainable. There will be a market for positioning.
2006-11-01 15:32:29
yep...

think players with poor positioning won't follow your tactics and just run whereever they feel like :P

will be interesting to see how they assign this to players... random, or all start on say adequate...

There seem to be many mentions of the word decision. looks like pm on strikers and in combination with passing will be of increased value.

Will I be able to get some at my local sunday market at the station car park?

- More clever shots when one on one with the keeper (for example, placing the ball using less power).

And player will decide to do this based on playmaking or scoring?

If 2 players go for the high ball, which one will kick it, the one with better technique?

Hey guys, in general i'm going to make a request and i'm gonna put it in bold.

Please state conjectures on this change by saying "I think" or "I guess" or "I would assume" or "i hear on the German forum that people believe", unless you know what you are saying to be true.

There's already been a few statements in this thread that are worded as if they are fact, when i know very well the users who made those statements do not have any factual knowledge of the way the engine or new skill/training works internally.

or it could be built in as a bug fix... so all players get it...
2006-11-01 15:42:19
Yes, it is also available at petrol stations at highways. You can also exchange it with coupons.

Since positioning is a new concept my hope is that it will not interfere with tactics or replace the importance of tactics.

As my first season comes to a close and a promotion to B league with a win on the horizon, my tactics are a strategic advantage. From my point of view "positioning" may take away, from many, the advantage they have with their tactics, they're like a competitive advantage when developed effectively!!

Please, if possible, I would like a clarification (or some):

1) Positioning will be a "collective" or "individual" skill?

2) If collective, based on what?

3) If individual, will it be "trainable", subject to improvement?

Let's see how it works, but, in principle, I like all changes but this one. It concerns me:

As coaches, we are already limited in our options by the current players skills and "limited" events, and one of the best tools (the best tool, "the" tool) is the tactic. If it turns out now that your players may do whatever they feel like in spite of your indications, it will be very frustrating.

It's like saying: "you put your defense the way you like, the #4 will anyway be wherever he feels like, and the libero will play the off-side trap whenever he wants".

My belief is that new skills and new features should give coaches more options, instead of limiting them more. So, if iIf such "positioning" will be introduced, at least it should be under "control", namely:

If individual, it should depend on the form of the player (not new "skill", just a side effect of a good or bad form). Or something like this, but not a "new" skill...

If collective, it should depend on something that we can influence, and quickly (not throughout "seasons").
