why giving striking to a mid when you can train passing or tech, or def...or anything else except striking

those situation when a mid scores are very rare, and only against weaker teams...the most important thing is to have ballanced player with a high skill at defence to get the ball quick and pass it to the strikers

i know what a midfielder without defence means at high levels...almost all the nz players have this problem

There are different types of midfielders. IF you want to have an AM in the team he should have striking skill trained.

Oh yeah, Argentina is weaker than Russia. Or Norge is weaker that Israel? Nope. But mids do score. It's at least needed to shoot, it may end as a corner, or on rebound the striker may score. So having AM in the team is good, though not vital.

unless someone talks about extreme builds whether a type of player is viable or not usually depends more on the tactic the manager comes up with to use those skills in an appropriate way than on the pure build of the player itself.
of course an attacking midfielder is not going to score unless you provide him the opportunity through your tactic just like a defensive midfielder will not need tackling if he's put in a postion where there's no opponent around.
