"in simple terms the rightside are the primary skills for any player on the pitch. the left side are the secondaries for any player on the pitch."

now we are talking about positions? that's far too simple in that way, that's ht-like what you say. in fact you have for each position at least two primary skills and for each position is at least one of the primary skills on the left side, in most cases pace.

"Basically you are saying tech is unimportant for players that aren't wingers or attackers. I consider this wrong. Tech is very important, but that doesn't mean you want as high tech as possible, but enough to enable your primary skills."

I'm pretty sure that tech is not very important. :) you need enough tech that your players are able to control the ball after passes in most cases, and therefore ~solid - very good is enough. It might depend on your team strength - if you have a new team tech might be important as it can be very difficult with very low tech but in higher leagues tech becomes more and more unimportant compared with other skills imho.

@ robfol: afaik € and $ are the same here. :)

Primary means highest rank of importance. the highest rank of importance for a goalkeeper is goalkeeping. the highest rank of importance for a defender is tackling. the highest rank of importance for a midfielder is playmaking. the highest rank of importance for a striker is striking. maybe you understand that one?

"the highest rank of importance for a midfielder is playmaking. the highest rank of importance for a striker is striking. maybe you understand that one?"

I totally disagree.

yes players have more than one impornant skill but not more than one primary skill :)

who said that?

The highest rank of importance for a winger can be pace, for a defender or a striker it can be pace too, or tech for a striker.

In my opinion it's very important. If my midfielders have low tech they won't be fielded except for friendlies. The same goes for defenders. I'd never buy a defender with tech weak or lower except for rare cases as well as if I plan to train it. Why then is tech not imporant?

It's of a high priority per definition if not having any tech means not playing. The first 5-6 levels of tech are of equal, and very high importance for all my players where as the next levels are mostly important for those that are tackled often and by players with high defending.

no it wouldn't! if you have a defender who is superdivine pace and superdivine tackling. the superdivine tackling would still be the primary skill.

either way a player with all secondaries is rubbish and a player with all primaries is rubbish.

Based on your assessment of secondaries, an all secondary player, would make a decent winger.

Also, I'll say passing is the primary/most important skill for a midfielder.

Good posts Daleg2006, I agree with your comments.
2009-02-13 19:47:36
Daleg2006 does not say that the other parameters are not important but he talks about the single most important parameter for each position.

Technique for example is important for defenders but one can live without it. One cannot live with a defender whose def is low though etc...

Once playmaking reaches decent level then I also prefer passing for a midfielder. However, a midfielder with very high passing and low playmaking is useless but when you flip it then you might get a decent one.

that is exactly what i mean
