so no assistants means no general training

Hmmm... I don't agree on this point...
I played without any assistant a few seasons ago and I had general training because some players had random pops :)
Anyway, it's better to have assistants, that's the main idea ! ;)

Right now I only have a coach who happens to be Portuguese. If hiring an assistant is better to be Portuguese or may be from another country?

it dosent really matter where the coach is from.

From Newbie Guide Updated:

Head Coach: High in individual stats.
Youth + Assistants: High in general appraisal.

1 more thing, make sure the assistant' salary isn't much more as this:

good - 1 500 €
solid - 2 270 €
very good - 3 400 €
excellent - 5 230 €
formidable - 8 000 €
outstanding - 11 475 €
incredible - 17 700 €
brilliant - 24 545 €
magical - 34 000 €
unearthly - 53 600 €

Example: if your 'very good' assistant has a salary of 5 500 €, you could have had an 'excellent' assistant for that same salary.

and to get low salary you need low gk skill

Overall that is a good advise, specially for head coach. But when it's about assistants the skills doesn't matter. Keeper can be as high as it is as long as the salary isn't to high, like these assistants:
Excellent assistant, max wage: 8 000 €

yes the single skill doesnt matter in assistant, but 1 level of gk trainer skill cost more then 1 lvl of other training skill.

What adaca means is that goalkeeping is a very high loan skill. So if you look for an assistant GK should be low, for low wage :)

This is what I'm trying to say, for assistants it doesn't matter how high or low GK is (or any other skill), as long as the salary isn't higher as the next level assistant :)

If you search transferlist like this, you never have to look at skills ones: Excellent assistant, max wage: 8 000 € :)

but lots of people use the recruitement function to find staff.

I agree it is almost always better to use transfermaket for coaches, but i also know many people can not resist to recruite :)

yes the graphs are trusted. its based on examples over a few players.
note its the max talent. there is like 1/20 chance the player has a talent of 4 or lower i guess (which is 33% longer than the graphs)

i think i have had only 1 player every 3 seasons with max talent in YS (so one every 150 youths)
