I'm aware of their result so far... I was a big fan of Chilavert :)

it's just strange to see them in front of Brasil and Argentina... don't know if they have some well known players... I'll google it :)

Not many well known...I can recall Barretto, Cardozo and Nelson Valdez...rest of them is probably national league players, or playing in some other South American countries...

Paraguay is a great team... they are incredible tough and very well organized in defense, and in the last decade or so they always have 1 or 2 World Class strikers.

They are incredible strong playing in their own stadium (I think it is even tougher than Brazil -Brazil are strong locally but it happens that there are games that they disappear (also there are times that the game has barely started and you are already 3-0 down, but whenever you go to Paraguay you know it is going to be tough).

Paraguay is by far the most regular team of South America, and it would also lead almost any group in Europe. Argentina and Brazil are better, but those countries are not behavaing as regular as Paraguay lately.

Paraguay is a great example that you don't need a Messi an Aguero and a Tevez (Or Kaka, Ronaldinho and Pato) to play decent soccer. With clear ideas, team work and organization you can have do a lot. What Paraguay misses is that key and quality player that can untangle a tough game, and that type of player is generally required in short competitions like the World Cup. But in long competitions, like Qualifications, Paraguay is a great team.

Paraguay may not have A LOT of good players but a wonderful team group.
They always have awesome defense and the new coach has maintained that and added a better attack.
Brazil and Argentina are playing... not that well but they will qualify anyways.
Chile is more or less the same as Paraguay. Not so great players (at least not by name) but a very good teamwork and VERY offensive way to play. They managed to get some good results away.
Uruguay, for me, is playing better than the last 4 qualifiers (all that I have seen). We loose playing great (as with Brazil) and we have won playing no that well, but it's the first time in a long time that people like the way of playing.
I believe that those teams will be on the top 5 if nothing estrange happens.

I personally don't think Chile is in the same level as Paraguay. In my opinion, his coach is too stubborn and awfully short sighted and inflexible. That is not good at all in a team, specially in world class competitions.
Time will define if Chile is as good as how it looks right now, but remember not everything that shines is gold and I think Chile is doomed with Bielsa (even worse, Bielsa rises the expectations so now the cliff is higher).

Time will give me the reason or not.

You are probably right.
But last qualifier Chile ended almost last. And now is on the top 5. That means something.

In our group (4) it looks to be a walk through to South Africa for Germany, but the second place is still open. Will be a very important match on June 10th in Helsinki when we face Russia. A victory there and it's all open for the 2nd place.. though we have to improve a lot from last fall's 0-3 game in Russia.

You have an error.

Bolivia 0 - Venezuela 1

oh sorry

The Qualification would be easy for the 5th placed team. The CONCACAF Zone is very overrated. I hope Uruguay will play in the WC in 2010.
