Players aren't the 1s to blame, that is the ref, football isn't rugby nor tennis, in football the mistakes of the refs are part of the game, that's it, like it or not.

May I ask why Geoff Hurst celebarte his goal in 1966 final against Germany and didn't go to the ref and said: "No man, the ball didn't go in goal". That's because football is like that, if you can take a little advantage you should, and it's a beauty no other sport has, things aren't black and white, it has many grey areas.

Humberto Suazo, the top scorer of South American Eliminations, Alexis Sanchez (20y, a fantastic winger/att) and and Matias Fernandez/Jorge Valdivia (but only one can play as "10")

Chile Plays all games with 3-3-1-3 or 4-3-3... in attacking with one "9" (Suazo) and 2 wingers (Sanchez and Mark Gonzalez or Jean Beausejour)

and one "10" (Matias Fernandez... sometimes Jorge Valdivia)

Sanchez is awesome player, amazing that he is only 20yo...players evolve faster nowadays I guess?
2009-11-19 22:55:00
Sanchez started play with 15y in Cobreloa (Chile), then Colo Colo (Chile), then River Plate (Argentina), and now in Udinese (Italy)... 20/21y in South America is normal.

in south america a normal career is 17/18y the first steps; 18/19y played international cups and won national cups, and 19/20/21y goes to europe to play.

Henry should be more 'professional'

You mean he should be more 'amateur', I guess. Professional is what he was: when you play without reffs, with friends or strangers but completely amateur, you do the kind of things you suggest. I mean, if you invent fouls in a reff-less match, you are really scum :P
But 'professionals' do as Henry, "let the reff decide", and don't think in themeselves, but in the team. You criticize him now, but had he told the reff, he would have been killed by team-mates, coach, and French in general :P He didn't even scored the goal, Gallas did. Do ou imagine Gallas and the rest of the team celebrating, and Hentry telling the reff to cancel the goal?

Still, if you want to hold Henry guilty of last night, you may say he was 'too professional'.

Mark gonzalez is awful.

Wow, pretty much all of that statement was wrong. There's no point in looking to blame others for the players themselves cheating. Dont sugar coat it because cheating is what it is. As I said before, the ref shouldn't have to make decicions like that if the players dont cheat. In no other sport would this kind of thing be tollerated. And its not because football is a special case or because it a part of the game. Fifa need to take their heads out of their own asses and actually start cracking down on diving and unsportsman-like behaviour.

I mean do you have more or less respect for the likes of DiCanio or Fowler for their displays of proper sportsmanship? Henry showed no 'professional' behaviour by what he did. What example does that set for kids watching that match? Cheating is alright as long as the ref doesn't see it???

Then what are the refs for? Matches should be played without them, if you put it this way, I think you got a naive point of view of the whole matter.

I agree with you (and I'm french...), although you have to realise that's it's in the human nature to do this things until you get caught... it's happening at every level of society. It's hardly a surprise to see it on a football pitch...

There's two things happening during that action: cheating and a mistake from the referee...
Two different problems that both need to be addressed asap by Fifa.
2009-11-19 23:54:28
There's a difference between deliberate cheating and things like fouls and tackles. It shouldn't be naive to expect a so called professional to play resonably within the rules of the game. I suppose Maradonna and Schumacher were justified in what they did because the ref didnt see it? Thats the kind of view that's holding football back from being a cleaner sport. If you're willing to condone cheating then players will be more inclined to do it.

cheats are scum - FACT

no way of painting over it to make it "ok"

clean up the game from these paracites and things will improve , no matter wha is said - the french could only win by cheating

sad , but true
