I mean do you have more or less respect for the likes of DiCanio or Fowler for their displays of proper sportsmanship? Henry showed no 'professional' behaviour by what he did. What example does that set for kids watching that match? Cheating is alright as long as the ref doesn't see it???

I saw when Di Canio didn't wanted to score cause the keeper was laying on the floor, If I remember correctly Fowler did something similar, but I don't think it is the same situation than a handball or a penalty that was wrongly called, like that romanian player some 1 showed before, the ref made a dicision he can't changed it on what players are telling him, he has to decide, cause he is tehre just for that purpose. It's totally different tahn seeing a hurt fellow profession partner(another football player) hurt and stop the game for him to be attended by doctors. Anyway it's good if players do at politically correct action, but players shouldn't be crucified if they don't, that's why whe have refs to be neutral.

By the way, I also saw Di Canio saluting like a nazi with his Il Ducce tatoo in his right arm after scoring a gola in Lazio vs. Roma derby, he might have had a spormanship action in England once and he is praised for that, but he wasn't as criticized for that other thing(that is totally worse) as he is praised for not scoring when the keeper of the other team was laying on the floor

Di canio didnt cheat tho mate

no arguments - cheating is PATHETIC

I'm not willing to condone nothing, There's a referee, that knows the rules, when he sees some1 acting against the rules he acts accordingly to the rules, it's simple. He is there to do not aloud players to cheat.

Spoken like a true countryman from Argentina who gave us the Hand of God. ;)

Players aren't the 1s to blame, that is the ref, football isn't rugby nor tennis, in football the mistakes of the refs are part of the game, that's it, like it or not.

May I ask why Geoff Hurst celebarte his goal in 1966 final against Germany and didn't go to the ref and said: "No man, the ball didn't go in goal". That's because football is like that, if you can take a little advantage you should, and it's a beauty no other sport has, things aren't black and white, it has many grey areas.

Geoff Hurst's shot hit the bar and went like a rocket downwards, nobody could see that it had gone in or not. In fact I think I am right that scientists were enlisted to prove it did not wholly cross the line, thats not cheating in any case. Henry purposely controlled the ball twice to cross for their goal, the same as Maradona purposely jumped and punched the ball above Peter Shitlon's head, so please do not bring up Hursts goal as attempted cheating...thats just shameful.

The fact is that Ireland have every right to be upset, this one thing has possibly stopped them from going to the World Cup Finals, they do NOT make every finals so its a big thing for them. Henry cheated and then had the (dis)grace to sit down by the Irish players once it had finished and then say to the media it was unintentionable. (Anybody who has played football knows it was intentional).

but effective if you can get away with it for so long (look at man united)
2009-11-20 00:11:16
exactly :)

so , we should use television to catch the cheats then ban them after the game . it would soon stop all these muppets diving !!!
2009-11-20 00:12:56
i think something like FA banning them 2 weeks wages will be sufficient not a permaban.
2009-11-20 00:13:06
You can totally see taht teh ball isn't in in the old videos, then Geoff Hurst, from the point of view you are all using, wasn't noble enough to say "Hey man, the ball dind't passed teh line" the situation is the same, not being honest enough to say you took an advantge of a referee mistake, that's it.

Henry is an angel cheater compare with italien or portugues players as Materazzi, C. Ronaldo. If Ireland play against italien or portugues, they will know what the word "cheat" means.
2009-11-20 00:14:22
rather than a wages fine - id say you dive you get an automatic 3 game ban

you do it again , 6 game ban

do it again , 2 weeks wages fine - diving would be gone for ever mate !!!
2009-11-20 00:15:00
cheat - henry for handball
anelka for diving

thats cheat lol
2009-11-20 00:16:55
hmm, but some divs it is difficult to see id they are a dive, for example if a player is running full speed and he gets the slightest touch, you can easily go down, many will see this as a dive but may vary well e a valid ahem falling over ;)
2009-11-20 00:18:18
most dives nowadays are bloody disgraceful ( ngog ? )

the time has come for video to be allowed to punish these plebs . football doesnt need it , its a joke !
