2010-03-12 17:41:46
That's pitty. Hoped to hear from you if it's correct what I have seen in documentaries about Turkey. But I understand, it's a difficult subject specially in Turkey I think, East meets West :)

EDIT: don't understand me wrong, if secularism is working I'm jealous at Turkey :D

Well, since Cyprus is a member of the EU, Turkey have to negotiate about Northern Cyprus - or never will be a member.

yeah man thats why i asked about, i know they are laicist state in theory...but reality seems to be another

I think that for both, EU and Turkey would be better cooperate than being in union now. Turkey is important democratic and strong ally and gate to Middle East.
EU see your cult of personality, influence of army and national myths as incompatible to European values, while for Turkey its very important part of their state. I am not anyhow judging if it would be better for Turkey get rid of it but I think that EU will not integrate Turkey with that.
Reconcilation with Cyprus would be also needed.
Its very touchy subjects for both.

yes, please dont talk about this subject. ok. i understand that what are you thinking. and red i dont think like you. but i love europe. :) i wont say my thought. please continue from EU.

The question about Cyprus isn't the only one Turkey have to resolve before join Europe. The armenian genocide and the behaviour with Kurds are also very important questions. I dont' want to say Turkey can't join EU. Just right now it's impossible, and there still are few important steps to walk to have a chance.
2010-03-14 17:53:28
i am not talking about armenian genocide anymore but you dont know how are we behaving Kurts. If you want to learn everything about Kurts come Turkey and see everything. you cant talk about italy or other people cant talk about their country. if you want to have got a thought about my country, you have to come and recognize here. Do you know Cyprus Genocide? Cyprus has done! 103 Turkish Villages destroyed by Cyprus Greeks.Only we helped our people! USA, WORLD AND UN(UNITED NATIONS) ONLY WATCHED! Please dont answer, sure, EU doesnt make us CRAZY!

It' truth that all countries made or make mistakes but you have to admit that if you come to EU your country will have many benefits ;-)

Just think how much money will you save by not buying weapons against us and so we will do. Think just how much money will take your country for roads, for farmers anf generally for upgrades and think that you will have a strong euro to protect your economy ;-)

See, in spanish newspapers, when speaking about UE, about Turkey they always say "its a modern society and laicist society", so it was my opinion too.

But, in my house we rented a room for a german student since last september to march....in first e mail her surname was "Hassir" or sth, so we thought she should be from turkey...and i told to my mates" dont worry , they are modern people now". Big mistake.

That girl , 24 yo university student, came with their parenst as if she were a child, and the first thing they told us was" do you know when ramadan is in spain?", wich was a lack of repect and lack of common sense imo, we didnt knew it, but after some hours she told me "dont worry, now the sun is gone", so what they wanted to know was at wich time the sun is going down,.....why didnt they ask this in this way? why they acted as if everyone knows what ramadan is? ( i didnt know that ramadan means the time the sun comes down! )

not only this, but the parents slept 4 days at my home, my dads and flat-mates dads where surprised that 40-50 yo people didnt take a hotel. Difference of mentality was absolutly huge

Not only this, That german-turkish girl got a boyfriend in France,.....and the parenst didnt accepted the relation because....the boy was not muslim!. For me and my friends it was like coming back to medieval spain.

I was surpriesd in general in a really bad bad way.

Oh another thing XD, the parenst first day arriving there, called my gf 100 times to the phone , and she had to pick up them because they were on the subway place close to my house and didnt knew how to go to my home. didnt they listened about a thing called "google maps"? Even my little brother has more autonomy

as i said, it was like speaking with 5yo people...and it must be because the difference of mentality.

And no, here people wich can be considered ultra catholic ( pe: i dont use condomd because the pope says so) is a really little percentage. Really little. I dont mind wich your religion is, i mind that you live your religion as it was lived here more than one century ago.
