Subject: Is European Union good or bad thing?

2010-03-19 15:13:15
It was a different referendum about a different question.
2010-03-19 15:40:27
It was the same referendum about the same treaty.
2010-03-19 15:42:22
The referendum was biased though, most people just voted no out of populism and not knowing anything about what they were voting for.
2010-03-19 17:53:36
It was about a modified treaty, not the same. (and don't forget that the first referendum rather was a protest against the actual Irish government, not about the treaty)
2010-03-19 18:50:33
Modified traty is generally the same as previously treaty. Basically there's no differences.
2010-03-20 10:37:34
eu is free market economy, the URSS was centralized economy, if you see not differencies you should study a bit economics

Maybe you should turn it around ... Most people didn't know what they were voting for so they voted NO. Also the smart thing to do if you don't know really what you are voting for I think :)
Ofcourse our former gouverment didn't let us vote NO the second time, they just pussed it through. Long live dutch democracy ...
2010-03-21 08:22:01
Most people just voted for and not knowing anything what they were voting for. They only knew that other countries would hate them if they would voted otherwise.

It was unreadable because some reason, to be hard to criticise by normal people. Directly opossite of purpose of national constitutions.
2010-03-22 10:56:42
The first referendums were about the Constitutional Treaty, the second were about the Lisbon Treaty. Two different treaties. Secondly voting about the same thing more than once isn't undemocratic - rather the opposite. How can having a referendum be undemocratic? Should we only have parliament elections once then? No? Thought so...

Thirdly... national governments have been elected by the populations to handle these things (some countries have constitutions that makes it necessary to have referendums), but otherwise it's a part of the democratic system in most countries to give this kind of power to the parliaments and governments. Not exactly undemocratic. Politicians shouldn't legislate of populistic reasons but because of considered reasons. So you're absolutely wrong in every aspect.

You're completely wrong. Both Treatys are the same. Differents between them are very small.

Tell me... First referendum in Ireland... If the Irish have said "yes" i it would be second referendum?

And one thing- which means "populistic reasons"?
