I haven't read it since 1984 so can't remember it too well...
I wonder can sparknotes cover most of it´s action and ideas? and all in all what could the main idea of the story be?
i suggest you read the book
it's one of the best books ever written, which covers every aspect of society and can even be considered as prophecy.
ok, he thought it would happen in 1984, but in 2011 we are already almost there

mnyea, actually I have wanted to read the book. I´ve herd a lot of good about it. and I´ve started reading it 3 times to be honest. but every time something has came between and I have failed to pass chapter 2..:( I´ll go on attempt 4 on summer.
it's orwells vision of what the world would look like in 1984
very hard to fit it all in a short summary as he makes lots of brilliant ideas, like making new language to fit new way of thinking, the idea of big brother and "system always wins" idea
ofcourse war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength
he has a very dark vision of the world and the worse part is that our world is starting to look too much like what he wrote there
really would be a great pitty not to read something as brilliant as that book is. should do animal farm too, while you're on orwell which is also a great great explanation of human society and human behaviour
i also like burmese days, but it's kinda different from the two above

Richard Branson - Screw it, lets do it
and
Richard Branson - Business Stripped Bare
First one is about his adventures and how it all started, so kinda easy-reading. Second one is more business-oriented and gives you some insight into running a billion dollar conglomerate.
Good books, read them!
