I like it too get lost for a few days in a book every once in a while. I read Rural Geography by Michael Woods at the moment, but that's for study. After my exams I will start with Guns, Germs en Steel by Jared Diamond. A writer who's able to write books with much information in an interesting way. Also a bit study-related.

now that we are on the book topic, i was wondering what are the prices of books in other states?

for serbian standards books are rather expensive, but that doesn't mean anything as most of things are expensive for an average serbian student [:D]
i'm talking about books you read everyday, not some literature for school, university, job, encyclopedias, whatever...

some standard book 200-600pages in soft binding is 5-10euros here

That's cheap. They will cost around 25 € here.

If you by soft binding mean paperbacks then the price here is pretty much the same.

25€ would be something like 1/8-1/10 of average wage in serbia [:/]

Here as well.

have no idea what is the word for that but it should mean - the first and the last page of the book. it can be made of some kind of thick paper and there are books with.. well even thicker paper, like cardboard but it's not cardboard [:D]

first is what we call soft. they are cheaper but can be damaged more easily

No way, for a student maybe, but not for the working person in general.

amazing thing happened to me today when i was going home from the university. there is some kind of book-market near university (well it's not a market, more like 3-4 guys selling loads of old books) and there i found edition-all books by e.m.remarque (well most of the good ones in any case 10books there)

after some haggling i bought all ten books for a very nice price of 19euros [:D]

to be clear these aren't new books (printed 1966), but are in perfect condition. guess whoever owned them before me used them just to fill the space on the shelf [:D]
